Engaged too fast..?
posted 2nd Nov
To start off I'm not judging, I'm asking a question. I've seen so many girls on here (mostly minors) that say they got engaged to their SO before they were together for a whole year! It takes about a year to just get over the "honeymoon" phase of a relationship. Why do you get engaged so fast? Is it because you're pregnant and/or have a kid with this guy? Just because you have a kid with him, or are pregnant with his child does not make it a deffinate that you WILL be together FOREVER! But yes, there is that slim chance you could, but for t he most part it doesnt really work out. I say you should ride it out for a year or two before you talk about engagement. JMO of course. My 22 year old SIL is getting married to her 33 year old bf after only knowing him for 4 months! Their wedding date is set for January 2nd, 2010, they will be going out for 7 months at that time. Love is love I guess but I think she's crazy. She's the kind girl that has a new boyfriend every month.
But once again, this is just my opinion. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

I met my DH in high school at the age of 14, and he was 18. I recieved my promise ring 6 months after we started dating, and my engagement ring 2 years after.

Someone posted the other day about how in love they are with their boyfriend and that they are eloping in a month.... They've been "dating" for two weeks!!

I told my SO I don't even want to DISCUSS marriage until I'm at least 20.
I'm not naive, I don't want to be married and divorced before then if something went wrong.

they mistake lust for love and can't see anything past the stars in their eyes....

Personally, I tend to move slower, my husband and I were together for MANY years before marrying.
BUT, I think it's different for everyone. Some people can have a "Happily Ever After" with a quick engagment/marriage.

oh i see alot of those girls too, and i was honestly one of them. but lucky me, we were engaged BEFORE we got pregnant. but i see the ones who get pregnant and then a day later are engaged.
we talked engagement a month after we started dating, and were engaged a month later, and pregnant 2 months after that.
and we've been married going on 3 years, together for 4

My husband asked me to be his wife after 7 months of knowing me. We didnt conceive our first child together until our wedding day.
Even though I think he's a butthead, I've gotten my lovely daughters out of it.
I got married way too fast. If my husband and I ever get to a point where we actually MEAN our vows, we'll renew our vows at that point. We arent ready to renew our vows yet.

Me and my boyfriend have been together for a year and 6 months, we have a kid on the way, and WE ARE NOT ENGAGED. I agree, people are jumping the gun on this one.

For the most part I agree with you.. but it really depends on the situation.
For instance, in our church it's not at all uncommon for the young people to get engaged within a year of dating, and then get married 4-6 months after that. They know they want to get married, why not do it.
But getting married to someone you barely know just because you got your ass knocked up and you think you need to be married is probably a very bad idea.
My husband and I got engaged a little under 9 months after we started dating - but we went to junior high together.

1 year - over honeymoon phase
By the end of 2 years, you get to know them real good, and you'll know if it'll last
Some people take a while to get to "know" who they are and even change after high school (me)
Some people don't change.... so the age part varies
Also, what I found acceptable when I met my 16 year old bd is NOT what I find acceptable in him at 22 years old and he needs to grow UP! lol So ladies should look for warning signs....
