What's the significance of a promise ring?

It's also saying we are "engaged"to bemarried one day..
Dont understand the need for a promise ring..
Just was readign the comments and saw some mention it and got to thinking.

i guess it's a sign of commitment on their behalf of telling you that they will only be yours and that they love you...
a promise ring is just a stage before engagement...

I think it depends on age, experience and how quickly you get to know each other. I say age because you go through dramatic changes within the first few years outta high school. Eventually you settle down (maybe quit partying so much) and know more of what you want from life. And especially if you've had prior serious relationships you tend to know what you do and do not want in a relationship. And then how quickly you get to know each other and how honest you are.

But even then, it still just takes some damn time to know you are making the right decision. I think you should at least go through every season and holiday before you even consider engagement.

A promise ring is just to show that they are serious about you. Usually it means marry you one day. An engagement ring (in my opinion) means we are on our way to get married and planning the wedding. I don't see the point in getting engaged if you're just gonna keep prolonging marriage.

Well i know, ive cheated on him once he just didnt want it to happen again, and i told him right away. plus it'll be at least a year that i can legally get married, so we'll see.

wow sorry that she lost the baby and wow he already has 3 kids and i guess she wants to be a step mommy to 3 kids lol. She should really wait a while before getting into all of that.

Ive wanted to be married to my boyfriend SO badeven before i got pregnant (we've been going out for almost 5 years) but once i found out i was pregnant things changed. My mom wanted us to get married but i think its different when kids are involved-i think its a bad idea just to marry someone b/c your pregnant. I want my bf to propose not because were having a baby, but because hes ready.
