Please help me!! (head lice)

posted 2nd Nov
My 15 year old was sent home today because he had been in the sick room at school on Thursday and there had been another kid in there with lice. So they called down any kid that had been in the sick room Thurs or Fri and checked them. So when I brought him home, I called my daughter's school, they checked her, she's fine. But when I checked Ben's head (he's 22 months) he is LOADED with them!! I know I can't use the shampoo or anything on him, I have to pick out every single one. I need some advice ladies!! First of all, he won't sit still. I've tried storybooks, toys, games, stickers, colouring and treats, but as soon as I touch his hair he squirms. I tried strapping him in his chair but he can still whip his head around and not sit still.
I'm going insane. I want them out but it's not working!! I've only done a small section of his hair above his ear and that took me almost 2 hours.
Any advice to make it easier?

You are not supposed to use it on children younger than 2 months. He should be fine

Just rub vaseline over it and leave it in for a few days.
My grandma always put vaseline in my hair and seran wrapped it. XD I don't know how well that would work with a toddler, but the vaseline suffocates the lice. After 3 days just wash the vaseline out (which believe me, is a bitch) and you won't have to worry about it. X)

I had a bad problem with lice when I was about 10 years old. I had it all the time and we finally got rid of it and my mom sat with the metal comb called a Lice Master and combed it all out it in two hours. I don't know why it should take you longer then that. But I have no advice about the squirming, ahhh can't wait to deal with head lice with my LO lol

But will suffocating the lice kill the eggs as well?

You should be able to use the shampoo, if not you can do olive oil,I think you can use vinigar too. You can google natural remedies for them.

I think you can use the shampoo but also invest in a small black light you can hold bc it makes the eggs way more visible and easy to get out.

Quoting ducky:“ But will suffocating the lice kill the eggs as well?”

I think so. I used to get lice so bad that it would never go away. After the vaseline I never had any problems. The reason you leave it in for 3 days is because it takes 2 days for the eggs to hatch if I remember right. They won't be able to lay new eggs on the hair shaft because it'll be too slick, and the old eggs will be suffocated too. Something like that. XD

Ok, I put the vaseline in his hair....but now he won't leave the cap on and there is vaseline EVERYWHERE!!! Haha!! And I know it will be all over his bed and the furniture in a few minutes.
My daughter had head lice 3 years in a row and I would sit and pick them out. It would take maybe 2 hours. But with Ben, he's still a baby, and will not sit still.
I used the shampoo stuff on my older son and am now waiting the 10 minutes to rinse, then I'll pick them out of his hair...but at least he'll sit still, lol!!!
