I'm sorry mama. Just try to stick with it but in the end I know you'll do whats best for you and him even if it's formula.

My son also lost 10% of his weight. Not because of lack of breastmilk. I still don't know what really happened. I got milk after 2 days, but being a newborn he wasn't latching on and getting the milk out quickly enough, sleeping all the time, etc.. boobs got engorged and very hard. Then I got clots too. Well the hospital wouldnt let us go home until he stopped loosing weight so i gave him formula from a bottle at the hospital, while pumping at the same time and giving him bottles of my milk to keep my milk going. I was pumping and ffing for like 2 weeks, then finally hesitated but put him on the breast again. It worked! Kept trying after that. He can go from bottle to breast no problem. I could have ebf if i wanted, but my milk does not keep him satisfied, 1/2 an hour tops after feeding for 2 hours. so we supplement with formula still. i firmly believe formula feeding is better than lettingmy baby starve for a week. But it got better though, and he is able to feed from the breast and when i just cant keep up with him i give him a bottle. it works for us.

Well that makes me feel so much better knowing i'm not the only one. I will do whats best for him thats all I want is him to be happy and healthy.

Mine took 5 days to come in, and then it was slow coming in after that as well. She ended up losing like 21 oz and I had to supplement as well. I wouldn't worry about it too much, cause Avery still took to the breast and the bottle just fine!

I had a similar problem.... milk took four days to come in and my body wasn't producing enough colosturm so Anabell was hungry.... she lost over 10 percent of her weight, we HAD to stay an extra night! I was VERY adament about ONLY breast feeding, the nurses we're pretty unsupportive, but my midwife suggested an SNS for supplemental formula feeding. Worked like a charm! It's a bottle with two tubes, you tape them to your breast and baby gets fed but is still latching on to you! NO nipple confusion! I also used nipple shields, because at first it hurt so bad I couldn't stand it (repeated incorrect latching), and they only made it worse. Anabell could hardly latch on without a shield for the first two weeks, because the shield is like a bottle nipple.

ALso I would like to point out that when my milk came in I didn't notice. My breasts didn't become engorged. The only way I knew the milk had came in was there was milk in the shield when she pulled away! I was sooooooo estatic! Apparently this is pretty rare, most women say it's VERY obvious when their milk comes in. Hope this helped!
