re: Is your kid smart?

Ok this is gonna sound mean but wtf. they're my kids.

When i was 17 I had a baby girl...she did a LOT early...walked at nine months...talked early...could tie her shoes by the time she was two ....potty trained in a day...at 18 months she was putting her diapers on her baby doll....perfectly.
THEN i had my boys 7 years later.
I swear to GOD i thought they were retarded....they walked at nine months...which was fine...all my kids did. But they STILL have a hard time tying their shoes properly (they are 6 and 7 now) they had a harder time learning new words and pronouncing them....took SOOOO long to potty train.
Etc Etc.
Turned out...the boys were NORMAL and Nikole was advanced.
That was proven years later when Nikole was tested and her IQ is in the 180s.
She's musically and mathmatically gifted...as well as gifted with computers and general "logic" .

Quoting Erica (Jacob's mommy!):“ just commenting about the language thing. my husband is fluent in english and spanish. he was actually ... [snip!] ... for 4 years and I just couln't grasp conjugating verbs b/c it was not how we do it english lol. So my spanish is very little.”

I could conjugate the verbs in French pretty easily. But Japanese! It's so simple that trying to go form such a complicated, direct language like English it's a BIG bitch. My adult mind can't quite grasp it.

I think all of my kids are awesome!

My oldest who is 10 scored gifted in science on those standardized tests, but then scored below grade level for reading/writing   He struggles in school (partly due to his ADHD). He walked early, talked early etc....I do believe he hit the physical milestones early because he was so darn hyper and ready to go LOL!

My 5 year old daughter is about average. She is amazingly intelligent and funny as hell, but still about average.

My 9 month old is pretty average too.....

Jeff's Mom is always tring to make Caden into Jeff. Jeff struggled with speech and reading really young. His Mom was insistant he probably wouldn't talk well until after 3. Shyeah. He already speaks like a three year old!

She still insists he'll read late. Yet, he already can say his alphabet and recognizes at least half the letters on sight.

I'd say he takes after me.

I don't really think about them being smart.

Misa and Eva are still coming into their own so I'll use Lilli.

She's strong and independent. She speaks her mind and I answer all questions. I want a child who can stand up and say 'Yes! I believe in this and here's why...' Obviously, at 3 she can't quite do that but that's my goal. Sure, it'd be great if all the girls were extrodinarily smart but the chances are that they will just be slightly above average in that department.

I have a witty, sarcastic, eloquent 3 year old and I prefer that over a 3 year old who can count to 10.

I'm helping her shape who she is because that is more important than anything. School teaches numbers and letters. Its my job to teach her to think for herself and know who she is.
