I'm not ready to take away her bottle.

posted 2nd Nov
My daughter is 12 mos old and some change and even though her pedi. told us that at 12 mos she needed to be off the bottle I don't feel like she or I are ready to take it away.

For one thing it's still her comfort along with her blankie to go to bed at night. Which I know shouldn't be the case but it is and that's that.

I've been giving sippies during the day but she basically still refuses to take naps or go to bed without a couple swigs from the bottle and besides that I still feel like she needs it.

Ugh.

Both of my boys bottles were gone at 11 months. The longer you keep them, the harder it is.

I'm in the same boat but my son's only 11 months. I know I won't be able to get rid of the bottle at 12 months.

it sorta sounds like YOU are the one not ready. it may take a few days but it has to happen. also , it's not good for their teeth to be sleeping with a bottle anyways. if you are excited about her sippy and show her its an awesome thing, she's more likely to take your cues and try it. it may be the kind you chose as well. tobi hated the first one we tried but gets excited when he gets his new one.

the longer she keeps using it, more attached she will become.

I would just do it now. It may be a rough couple of nights, but she'll get use to it.

My first was off a bottle between 11-11.5 months and the second about the same.

I know how you feel.

I made Addy give hers up at 13 months because from talking to a bunch of other mamas as well as her Pedi and Dentist, it seems that the longer they have it, the harder it is to take it away.

Our problem was also nighttime and naptimes. It took about a week for her to completely fall asleep without a fight without the bottle. We just made her have some control over her sleep. She gets to turn on her music, turn out the light, say goodnight to her fishies (her nightlight) and then she goes down without any fuss at all.

I'm so glad I had her get rid of it because I saw some pictures of bottle rot on baby teeth and it seriously scared the hell out of me.

my son's teeth went bad from the bottle the dentist said. made me take it away cold turkey at 13 months. long nights ahead. he is now 17 months and still treats a sippy cup like a bottle not sure what to do about that b/c with regular cups he dumps them on purpose

it's the kind of sippies we use. she will really use any of them but refuses to go to bed without a bottle. i dont let her sleep with them she just drinks a little before falling asleep.

disgusting isn't it? and then add to that the speech issues that can come with using a bottle/pacifier too long

Delilah loves the bottle too. i tried giving her milk in a sippy and she refuses to drink from it. she'll only drink water from her sippy cup. they will switch when they are ready i guess. lol.

The title of your post says it all. This is not about you. It is about her. All three of my kids were off the bottle before their first birthday. To me I see it as a step that I needed to take for them. They do not need it for nutrtion. It can do damage to their teeth. And from what I have seen the longer a child has it the harder it is to break them of it. Good luck and I assure you that you are making it much worse in your head than it is actually going to be.
