re: I'm not ready to take away her bottle.

We just took Vincent's bottles away on Thursday/Friday. We tried to put him down with a sippy instead of a bottle Thursday night, but he was too sleepy and hadn't used these sippies before, so it was no good. Friday after daycare, we started using only the sippies, and he's been fine since then. We had to find a sippy that he'd actually drink his milk out of, though, because he wouldn't take it out of the hard spouted ones that he drinks water (and juice, if he actually drinks it...he prefers water!!!). We ended up getting sippies with the silicone spouts, and he's taken to them like a fish to water. We haven't used a bottle since then, and he does great. So maybe try a sippy like that, so it's more similar to the bottle's feel?

Dakota was off the bottle by 11 months..she didn't put up a fight, she was excited to be able to use a "big girls" cup. She's 2 1/2 now and has graduated from the sippies, except when we go somewhere, then she'll drink from it in the car. She did have a binkie when she was younger, which helped her break from the bottle early. Then she just gave the binkie up on her own when she was about 14 months..

My kids got sick   I let them have their bottles last night   I couldnt start the process when they are already miserable. The day they feel better the bottle is in the trash! PROMISE

That's ok, mama. I know it's hard to do things when they are miserable (or making too many changes at once ie new bed, new house, new baby etc)

Thank you! They are pretty miserable and my husband and I are sick too, so it was not the best timing!

I took my son off bottle at 13 months with absolutely no problem at all. (I waited til he was adjusted to not having formula/breastmilk anymore) I never gave him a bedtime/naptime bottle andhis last bottles were always about an hour or so before bed/napso I think that made it alot easier to get off the bottles. However, he isvery attached to his binky. He is 19 months now and I am going to take it away when he turns 2. I talked to his pedi about it and he said to cut a slit in the binky when I start to wean him. He also toldme that 2 is the cut off point for the binky andby 2 he should not have a binky what so ever. I have a feeling that breaking the binky is going to be 1254575 times harder than the bottle though  

Kids just went down without bottles! It took not even 5 minutes of crying! woot woot!
