Is Paragard terminating pregnancies?

I've been struggling with this for the past few months or so and so I'm turning it over to the BG ladies..

I have the paragard intrauterine device (IUD) it's horomone free...I had it inserted in late May (I have three kids and am not sure about having more)

How does it work, you ask? I took this directly from the paragard website:

The bold part is what's bothering me.....I knew that the IUD is preventing pregnancy, but do you think that it's 'terminating' possible pregnancies? Hypothetically speaking, sperm reaches egg, life is created....then because of the IUD the cluster of cells (soon to be baby) gets passed and the woman does not become/stay pregnant. Correct me if I'm wrong please..... It would make me sleep better at night. HONESTLY.

For the record, I am Pro-Choice, for women, HOWEVER, I would NEVER have an abortion.

Does having this IUD make me a hypocrite? If you're a 'pro life' individual do you agree with this IUD? I would LOVE to hear all responses....

I wouldn't call it a murderer, but if you're pro-life it does seem a bit hypocritical considering it does allow implantation in some cases.

No, fertilized eggs don't implant all the time. It's no more a murderer than your own body is.

You're right. I think I'm gonna change the title...Murderer sounds crazy harsh..

if you think life begins when the egg is fertilized, then yeah, you could possbily be terminating pregnancies. just being honest. most birth controls work this way.

Eggs are fertilized and never implanted on a somewhat regular basis.
The copper in the IUD also makes the environment hostile to sperm.

It's stopping an egg from being fertilized (SP?) SO HYPOCRITCAL YES, MUDERER? No. I though pro lifers didn't use BC

it would explain my wide range of period types. Why some months I BLEED like im dieing for over a WEEK with all kinds of chunks and why other months its just a little blood like my normal pre baby/pre iud periods... And why they are soo irregular.


My teacher was saying the same exact thing last week just a couple days before starting my most recent period.

Exactly! It's like there was a possible pregnancy!

I've had only one suspected miscarriage in my life. I tested and got a BFN, but I was weeks late. I ended up having the most horrific period EVER. this was long before the paragard but now I've been thinking about that.

in a way I do think that.

It's not just stopping an egg from being fertilized. it's possibly NOT allowing a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus.
I said I'm pro choice, but I would never have an abortion. I didn't say I was 'pro life' however I'm sure there are many women who consider themselves pro life who do in fact use BC
