I feel like I'm failing already

posted 1st Nov
DH and I aren't close to ready for this baby all we have is a crib and some clothes and 2 packs of diapers. I'm so stressed about it. We dont have a lot of money right now since the last 6 months so much shit has happend and then I'm on bedrest and cant work and we have thousands of dollars in medical bills from the last few months. We are finally moved into a house that costs about 400 less then the apartment which will be helping but I'm really upset about how we cant afford the best for the baby. I am looking up deals online on stuff and I found a cosco travel system for cheap and I feel like I'm a bad person since I cant give the baby the best of everything...... I'm stressing that we aren't getting an expensive carseat and that he isn't going to have a huge closet of clothes. I feel like I'm a bad mom to be.

Hey, don't stress it....money and gifts will not make a child love you any less....I grew up without a lot of cool stuff, and I love my parents unconditionally..We are stressing a little bit about money, but you know what..what couple who is expecting wouldn't be..you'll be fine...just hang in there and do what you can

Don't even stress about it. Most of the stuff you "need" for a baby by today's standards, isn't even really necessary.

My son lives in hand-me-downs, they just get dirty anyway, we hardly used the travel system because he LOVED to be in a sling or a baby carrier, and he still doesn't use his crib.

A lot of it is just commercialized and over-rated. If you have love and time for your baby, that's the best thing you can give.

I hate money.. having one income sucks... I know it wont make me any less of a good mom but I want him to have everything. it doesn't help my BIL is having a baby and they brag about everything they have for it and its all really nice stuff, its all put on a credit card though.

dh says that a carseat is a carseat they have to have the same standards I just worry since some are so expensive it seems liek they would be better. I'm totally buying into commercialism I suppose

That is the worst gift to give your baby. What baby wants parents who are stressing about massive debt?

You'll do awesome. Just really take a good look at buying stuff second-hand. They go through it so quickly anyway, it just makes more sense.

Your baby will love you for all that YOU ARE for him/her. Not what you get the baby. Remember that

Don't worry mama. The only thing your baby needs the best of is your love.

My boyfriend and I are doing well financially and I still haven't bought anything brand new for the baby. I've bought a second hand bassinet, second hand breast pump, second hand bottle sanitiser, second hand change table, second hand baby basket and I've just been given 3 boxes of second hand (but excellent condition) baby clothes. I've also started looking for a second hand crib and shelves for the baby's room.

The only thing I've bought new is a travel system, which my Dad ended up paying for.

Just ask anyone and everyone you know if they know of anybody looking to sell baby stuff. You can pick it all up super cheap and in excellent condition - after all for a lot of it the baby doesn't use it for very long. It's not necessary to buy brand new stuff.

Dont worry!!
You can do a lot on a shoestring budget with Craigslist and goodwill shops!
There's nothing to feel ashamed of. You are doing the best you can.
Material things dont make you a better parent.

Seriously, as long as a baby has some diapers, a blanket, a carseat, some clothes and a breast to nurse, he's good to go for a few months!
Babies are not high maintenance.

All you really need is something for the baby to eat (if your bf, you are done with that one) a place to sleep safely (if you have a laundry basket or a dresser drawer you are set) and a way to carry him. Slings are good. You also need diapers.

All others, including clothes are optional. You can wrap a baby in a blanket when they need it and they will be fine. Kids grew up with a lot less than the entire toys r us catalog. You should be fine. Love him. He won't know the difference.

yeah we dont have much but we own everything. I would hate to put everything on pl;astic.we both are divorced and so we are starting over then we moved 2 thousands miles and left what we did have then bam finally got pregnant, its been one thing after another.

I should look up second hand shops around here, I dont care about that kinda thing as long as he has everything he should have
