I, personally, will not be vaccinating my daughter with this when she's old enough. I'm all about getting my child vaccinated with the well-established vaccines that have been tweaked to near perfection, but this one is just too new.

Ask her pedi what he/she thinks.

I've never been into any flu vax, it seems pointless to me.

I would not get my daughter vaccinated even if she were old enough, and I am not getting vaccinated. And my reasons are:

1) My daughter's pediatrician, who has 30 years of experience, told me that I can make my own decision but she would not give her own children such a new and not fully tested vaccine.

2) My brother got the vaccine and still got H1N1.

My 10 month old also has lung issues and when the vaccine is available for the baby he will get it. my 6 yo has already had it...I talked it over with my pedi and did my research to make the desicion that I feel is best for my family...every mom is different.

This might help you! I asked the same thing and posted a video of a doctor giving his opinion.

I had an in depth conversation with my pedi about this 2 weeks ago. My son is 15months and me and my SO were dead set on not giving it to him. We believed it was too new to give to him. The pedi told me that because he stays at home with me he isn't really considered "at risk" for getting it. It will be offered more to school children first. He also said that each year the flu vacination is produced in Feb. It is a new vaccine every year because every year there are different strands of the flu virus. He also told me that they started producing the H1N1 vacination in April and had it been done with production prior to Febuary with the original flu vaccine that they would have been combined into one shot. I really trust my pedi and found all of this information VERY helpful. I am still unsure if I will vaccinate because he isn't "high risk."

That is similar to what my pedi said...and basically if you consider this a new vaccine you would have to consider the seasonal flu vaccine new every year...since the process is the same and every year a new strain is in the vaccine. My youngest is high risk and that si why my 6 year old got it...sinc ehe will be the one most likey be the one to bring it home. We have a nanny who watches the baby int he house since the baby get s sick so often, and everything goes to his lungs....even when he gets an ear infection he has lung problems....it is awful. So he is extremely high risk. And we live 7 miles form the mexican border were it started and is really bad...

The H1N1 vaccine is made the exact same way the seasonal flu vaccine is made and has been made for the last 50 years or so. I was hesitant at first about it, but my best friend's husband has it and is on life support because of it. He was perfectly healthy before this hit him. I feel like that if I can protect my son then that's my job as a mom. I work around high risk people (hospital) and my DH is an elementary school teacher, so we are all getting the shot. But everyone has their own opinions. Just do what's best for you and your family.
