stripping membranes.

If your doctor strips your membranes to help labor come,
when do they usually do it?

do they do it only if you've past your due date?
or if you're a few days until your due date?

my dr did it at 38wks. but thats only because my last baby was the only baby i made it past 36wks. and I was def ready to have him. i was 4cm and 75% ANY WAYS.. but the contractions i was having .. wasnt really changing me. but i lasted until i was 39w 5d.

Mine did it at 34 weeks then again at 37..... 2 days after she did it at 37 weeks i went into labor....

I had mine done at 38 wks 5 days. I was 4 cm dilated 80% and having very mild contractions. It helped because 12 hrs later my water broke. It depends on the doctor though. It works primarily if you have some progession as far as dilating and contracting goes.

Why would your doctor strip your membranes at 34 wks?I don't get that.

its up to the doctor. some wont do it unless you go OD. some will do it at 39weeks.
it doesnt always work and it is pretty uncomfortable.

he did mine at 35 weeks.. didn't do anything

No idea.....

I had my membranes stripped at exactly 38 weeks, I was high risk and getting inducd at 39 weeks anyways. I was 2 cm dilated when he did it. It was sooooo painful. My water broke 3 days later

I believe so. But I guess they just separate the cervix from the water bag in hopes that it'll start contractions. It just felt like you were getting checked but 3 times worse.
