You have to sit down and explain it to him. It's natural and it happens and it's going to keep happening. It's your job to let him know there is nothing wrong with him. You don't have to give him exact details, but answer his questions.

i have a almost 4 year old and this happens to him to. Our approach is to say "That happens to boys sometimes, put it away now" and change the subject. Its important to make sure he is ok with it and not embarrassed by it. My son said 'why does it do it?" and we just said "thats the way mother nature made boys" .

if he's not getting answers from you, he'll probably ask other people.

Just say its a boy muscle, and it needs to exercise. It needs to get big and strong, just like his fingers.

Thats what I told my 3 sons - just normal everyday chitter chatter - don't get weirded out - just think of a creative answer but never ignore your sons communication with you! This is Sexual Education and you dont want him to feel he can't ask you anything he needs too.....................you have to be a cool mom, so talk about EVERYTHING as he asks about it!!!!

Yeah - but you don't have to sit him down, just have a normal chit chat - like you normally talk to him, don't actually take and plop him down and give him a lecture. GAWD - just roll with it, keep it casual, and address the question as simply as you can.............like its no big deal.....

Did I say to lecture him?

I'm telling the OP to stop being embarrassed by it and let her son know it's normal.
