Just Google concussions and bumps if you are worried and see what it pulls up.

No she said the brain is not swelling, bc the pressure is going outward, not inward.

Thank you. Leave it up to a couple people to misconstrue things.

Nope, sure wasn't. I was told it was better if the swelling showed up on the outside. Also, I was told to check his eyes with a flashlight, watch for vomiting, and to make sure he didn't become lethargic.

Puhlease.

If a person hitstheir head hard enough to leave a hematoma (bump) the hit was hard enough to cause injury to the brain. When ever we get a patient with a fracture and they have a hematoma anywhere on the head, they are immediately given a head CT to check for fractures of skull or bleeding on the brain. A hematoma is bleeding under the skin and it has nothing to do with what going on inside the skull, as it does not relieve pressure from inside the skull.
I think this nurse was trying to say it's better to have bleeding outside the skull than inside because some parents get very upset to see the bump.

Op sorry I'm not trying to scare you. Watch your little guy. If he seems drowsy, off balance, starts vomiting, slurs his words get him checked. Also you can check his pupils, if they are uneven (don't match each other in size), don't or are slow to react to light. If he does happen to fall asleep, wake him up often, if he is harder to wake up more than usual, get him checked. You know your son better than anyone, if you find he is not acting like himself, don't hesitate to get him looked at. Not all hematomas means a brain injury, its just an indicator that one is possible and the person needs to monitored.
I hope this helps, if not sorry.

Exactly, whether there is anything visible it has no determination on what is going on inside the skull. I've seen skull fractures with blood bruising and lumps but no damage to the brain and nothing visible but severe swelling of the brain from trauma and everything in between.

Yah. When we admit someone if they state they hit their head, we do neuro checks every hour whether there is a bump or not, if they do have a bump we monitor them even more. I'm not trying to be funny or rude to anyone but what is an inward bump?
