Christian America............

posted 1st Nov
I put this in D&D because how can this not turn into a debate? haha
Andy Rooney says:

I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don't agree with Darwin , but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.

Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire Book of Acts. They're just talking toa God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.

But it's a Christian prayer, some will argue.

Yes, and this is the United States of America , a country founded on Christian principles. According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect -- somebody chanting Hare Krishna?

If I went to a football game in Jerusalem ,I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer...

If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad , I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.

If I went to a ping pong match in China , I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit.
When in Rome .......

But what about the atheists? Is another argument.

What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to passthe collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer!

Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do.. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations.

Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.

God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me.

The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want. It is time that the majority
Rules! It's time we tell them, you don't have to pray; you don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don't have tobelieve in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right; but by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!

God bless us one and all ... Especially those who denounce Him,God bless America , despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all. God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

Let's make2009the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions. And our military forces come home from all the wars.

So, I imagine all my Christian, Gun toting, America lovers will appreciate this. And all my Athiest, Liberals ...well, not so much...but oh well...we all get to say our piece, after all it's still a "free country" at least for now.

PS It still says "In God we trust" on your money! Stare at it..

i didn't know that wanting fairness (legalized same sex marriage, not forcing non-christians to say "under god" in the pledge, etc) was stripping christians of their rights. woe is them.

Wow. Whoever that is, I don't like him. I think there are some Christians out there who are just as loud as as the atheists he talked about.

I don't see a big deal out of praying at a public sporting event. Now if they tried to make it mandatory for everyone to do it (which wouldn't work, anyway!) for sure believe I wouldn't be going. -I don't go to sporting events anyway but since we're talking in hypotheticals...-

As far as I know, non-christians have never been "forced" to Say anything, ever. Please get back to me if I am wrong.......also, same sex marriage has nothing to do with speaking or voicing your opinion....

No, I do think she brought up a good point.

We don't have a state religion like other countries do, so obviously we try and respect that by not doing prayers in schools, etc..

I'm atheist so I have to admit I really hate watching people pray, not because I'm against religion, but because it makes me uncomfortable and for some reason I get a ridiculously immature case of the giggles.

Although I do not agree with every little part of this article, such as mentioned above, and I agree that not saying a prayer at a football game is not a "stripping of rights", I do agree with the overall message of the article: which I got out of it as: This Country was founded as a country under God, and God is slowly getting taken out of the American picture. God is American. If you do not agree please voice your opinion.

I don't care about a 30 second - 1 minute prayer before games or going to school, but forcing children to say the prayer is what I care about (it happened at my old high school more often than not!)
Not everyone believes in the same thing.

If I went to Israel, of course I'd suspect it to be predominately one religion..
America? Kind of a melting pot, last I remember..
It'd be like saying that America was founded by white men, so they should get a bit more privilege then other races who didn't found it.

I suck it up when I go to a Church wedding or if my In-Laws want to say Grace before eating, but it doesn't mean that I have to be walked over or criticized for believing in the things I do.

I think America as a whole has changed, and my America does not put GOD before liberty and freedom.

I do not think God is American. I think freedom of choice is AMERICAN.

Dont forget our country was founded on lying and stealing from indians, and I'd rather not associate with that as well.

I personally don't care what people do as long as it doesn't put me out. If your gay and want to get married, go ahead. If you wanna pray to Allah, go ahead. But all the time people call me "stupid" and "ridiculous" because I pray to an "imaginary" God. People have no tact now a days. Why should it even matter?

I would NEVER do that. I think whoever did that is ignorant.

I don't care about the Merry Christmas from the retail clerk or the 30 second prayer before a town hall meeting (it was a huge issue in my city a few months ago). I don't care about the God bless you I receive from a stranger or the stranger who says she'll pray that my daughter gets better.

What I do care about is someone forcing my children to learn about God. What I care about is being hounded to join a church for something I don't believe in. What I care about is bring told my opinion or morals are less important than a Christians because I don't believe.

It doesn't bother me when people are using God or religion while being polite or caring. It does bother me when you do it and are looking at me like I have sprouted a second head and talking to me will taint your soul.

It happens to me all the time unfortunately. And it's not like I go around preaching my religion or openly saying oh hay I'm Catholic. I hear people dissing Catholicism and Catholics and I tell them I am and then all hell ensues.
