I wouldn't give him anything at 5 days old. Beyond that I'm not of much help, I know nothing about formula, hon and we've never dealt with constipation  . I'm sorry   I hope he feels better!

i dealt with constipation a lil bit with my son. i used (yes even at just a couple days old) like a 1/2 ounce of apple juice to 5 1/2 ounces of water and my mom used partial suppositories that they make for kids on him. i wouldnt use a whole one at a time. (i couldnt do that, i started crying, so my mom did it for me) turns out he didnt REALLY need it because he was BF and they can go up to 3 weeks without a bowl movement.

i would also recommend gas drops cus they can help things get going and rubbing his tummy lots.

I swear Madison has been constipated all day.
I just read in my book that you can put vaseline on a qtip and put some around their buthole and a little inside,
I did it with Madi 20 minutes ago and she pooped about 5 minutes later and now she is happy as can be!

when my lo's tummy hurts and is constipated I give him gas drops and lay him on his back and let him "ride the bike" just move his legs with your hands like he is riding a bike,,, it gets things moving around in there and gives him some relief
