For woman who have gotten IUD's...

posted 31st Jul '07
I was wondering if you have to wait to get the iud after your pap results have come back. Long story but I still haven't had my post partum check up, I have an appointment for a pap and bith control... but I want the IUD to be put in that day. Will they do it? or will I have to wait? Oh and do I have to tell them ahead of time that that's what I want so they can order it?

I got mine 6wks postpartum after my daughter. Then it perforated my uterus and I had to have surgery to remove it. Haha. I don't recommend them for personal reasons.

I didn't have to wait for anything other than a negative pregnancy test.

My girlfriend just got hers taken out after 5 months because she has done nothing but bleeding. I am pretty sure they should be able to put it in. I had the copper one and enjoyed that but they had to put it in during my period ugh. Good luck with it

Thanks for the replies ladies!

I'm just curious because my military insurance runs out on the 14th and my new one won't kick in until a few weeks after that, so I wanted to get it at this doctors appointment. I'm not too worried about getting pregnant on it because we plan on using condoms until hubby gets his vasectomy.

As for the other complications, I worry about those, but I can't get shots or most pills because I'm breastfeeding or they just don't work with my body.

utmunchkin_01@yahoo.com- what happened that made you realise that something was wrong with your iud? Which one did you have? Did you get it after you had children? Sorry for all the questions, I'm worried more now lol.

So they have to order it before I can get it then?

I got pregnant with my first on an IUD, plus is was scratching up my insides so I had to go to the ER to get it removed   Never again! But, to one of your questions, I had to make an appt to get it placed so maybe you should call ahead of time and let he doc know that an IUD is what you want on that visit so they can be ready for you.

I got mine (Mirena) 6 weeks postpartum and I had to pick it up at the pharmacy and bring it to him so he could insert it. I had alot of spotting for a couple months but now everything is back to normal and I love not having to worry about remembering pills etc anymore.
And no I didn't have to wait for any tests to come back because it was my 6 week appt.

Im so scared of those things. I havent heard a lot fo good things about the IUD...my neighbor had it for 5 years and went on to conceive quickly after it was taken out. but there is no way I will have a piece of plastic or metal stuck in my uterus. It just sounds scary for me. It works for lots of people...just not an option I would consider.

I told my dr I wanted the Mirena at my 6 weeks appt and they had to order it and I had to come back in to get it inserted. My dr told me they dont keep them in the office because they are so expensive that they dont want to order ones they dont need. So def call and let them know thats what you want before that appt so they have time to get it.

I like not having to think about BC with it but the bleeding sucks. Its really light but it has lasted 2 months now...since the day I got it inserted.

Oh, and my advice is that, if you get it, take the pain medicine before!! When I had Zalia the dr gave me 600mg Ibufrofens and I took 2 before going to that appt. I didnt feel a thing they were doing!! And I didnt cramp at all like they said I would.
