being induced..

so i'm 39 weeks as of today with my 1st& my dr wants me in tonight to be induced.. i wanted to wait & let him come on his own but she's dead set against it.. i already argued my way out of it once but now this is it. she said there's always a chance it won't work & i'll need a c-section, which i would really rather avoid. when she checked me on monday she said i was between 1-2 cm dialated so i'm hoping the stuff does it's job..but is there anything i can try to do before i go in to help the process along? i know waiting is always the best thing, and trust me if ihad it my way i would just wait it out,but she's inducing me tonight anyways so i figure it's worth a try if anyone has any (safe) ideas.

& my main reason for posting,for anyone who's been induced, what should i expect tonight?

Just dont go...they cant MAKE you be induced. You have no medical reason to be, why risk it.

Don't show up. You still have another week until you are full term. As long as you are having no medical problems then there is no reason to be induced. Your doctor is a quack and I'm sure its only so you don't ruin her weekend.

I'd be telling my doctor to fuck off.

Unless you are for sure of the day you got pregnant, then due dates aren't always accurate.

What's the reasoning behind "needing" the induction?

i was induced at 40wks +3days. i didnt have any problems with it, but it took forever. i went in at 40% effaced and 2cm, nd took me about 5hrs to actually get consistant contractions. they say that when ur induced ur contractions are worse than if you would go into labor naturally, but i wouldnt knw that.

i hope you have an easy going labor, its all worth it in the end though. good luck!

i was induced and it was hell, 72 hours of pure hell and in the end i was 10 minutes away from a c-section when they eventually got her out. leaving me with 22 stitches.
im not trying to scare you but if you o not want to be induced and there is no medical reason them tell them to stick it.!!!!!

i agree nd usually the docs dont induce you until after ur due date anyways, unless there is a medical problem. so i wouldnt go neither unless they have a medical reason to induce you.

Uh. Don't go. They can't force you to be induced. The only reason your doctor is doing this is out of convenience.

my dr isn't on call this weekend so it has nothing to do with that.. which makes it more obvious she really wants him to be born. she's afraid he's gunna be too big. i had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago & they estimated him @ almost 8 lbs, & yeah i know that's just an estimate,already so she's afraid of his size.
no i don't know the exact day i got pregnant but i do know the exact week so it can't be off by more than a few days. (at the time i was living on the other side of the country from my husband & that was the only week we were together so i know that's when it was)
she actually wanted him to have born already but i fought with her about it cuz i don't agree with forcing it ifhe's obviously not ready.trust me i agree with you girls about waiting, it's justwith the size issue i don't wanna take the chance that i end up with no choice but a c-section because i really don't want one. i have seriously considered not showing up & all of that. just wanted to have a heads up on what was gonna go down if i go through with it so i know what to expect.

Again, don't go in. They estimated my daughter to be 6 lbs. 3 days later she was born almost 9.

Well inductions increase the risk of csection by about 60%.

I completely agree, I really think you should just not go. They Cannot force you to be induced -it sounds to me like your doctor is just really impatient. Unless there is a MEDICAL NEED you should NOT have to be induced. You're not even due yet! You're baby might not be 'done' for another 1-3 weeks! -it is perfectly normal and safe for a baby to come up to two weeks AFTER the 'official' due date. Don't let your doctor's impatience get in the way of a healthy natural birth. It's when we interfere unnecessarily with nature's process that bad things start to happen.
I would really urge you -if there is no medical reason that she has given you -to just not go. It is Wrong for her to force you to have your baby just for her convenience.
