help.......
how can i keep my newborn safer around my twin daughters? they play rough, and don't speak yet. they are also rebeling..... big time.... last night we showed the girls their new baby sister, and god, it was terrifing! illiana and seph kept trying to sqeeze her, "pat" her on the head, poke her. climb over her......even though they are small for thier age, (20 months on the 5th) they are still huge next to baby ava.....
i don't want them resenting ava, ut i am at a loss as to what to do exactly.....

Get them dolls arounthed size of her and then you hold Ava and "show them" how to "love on" a baby, and have them copy what you do with their dolls. Make sure they know that they have to be very gentle and loving when they touch her

lol..I have yet to give birth and am also wondering how my twins will react, but they will be 3years old in December and do know what no means.
I want to involve them in helping me out and cuddling their little brother as much as possible to keep them from feeling left out.

I would probably swat their hand or rear, not hard enough to hurt but just to scare them... IDK if you believe in that, but that is what I would do.

they do, but they have began to realize that if mommy is busy, or hurt, i won't be able to reenforce the rules as well, and take advantage of my weaknesses.... just wait till im 100% better..... they will remember then whos in charge! this behaivor started are i got slower and slower from being pregnant. and tho my health is better, i still can chase them down yet.

it's a lot easier if you start teaching them while you're still pregnant, BUT ...

buy them dolls and teach them to be nice to their babies. how to touch them softly, never hit them, don't make baby cry, etc etc. teaching a small child how to treat a doll/baby can really teach them compassion for it. mychael got a cabbage patch doll for his first christmas when he was about 9months old and was taught how to treat his baby. it was ADORABLE, and it worked. he's now 2 1/2 with a 5mo old baby brother, and it's actually amazing how sweet and caring he is towards him.

also, you CANNOT "protect" him from them, you can't make it obvious to them that you're trying to keep them away from him. it will make them want to get near him even more, and if they end up jealous because of it it will make matters much worse. a jealous child who doesn't fully understand what they're doing can potentially try to purposely harm a baby. you have to figure out ways to include them in things and let them be with him under your close supervision. give them a chance to feel like he's THEIR baby brother.
