Having babies like back in the old days

posted 28th Oct
I have seen this type of debate many times...but this is a new spin.

Back in the old days they didn't have medical intervention. If the baby couldn't come out naturally it would die...today we have birthing miracles...C-sections, blah blah.

To those women who think that we should all do it old school, and have completely natural and painful births....if we can't have a natural birth should we have just taken the consequences like they did back then?

I always see people saying "everyone should have natural births, the way nature intended" but no one has the balls to say that you may get a dead baby out of the deal.

hm.

I've thought about that several times. Good question.

I don't think any mother on here would say that you should have an intervention-free birth if there is a risk to the mother or child.

i think we should go old school...but only when able. if it requires a c-section then they should have a c-section. i'd much rather have a c-section than a dead child.

Me and my son would be dead if it weren't for c sections. My body is not made to give birth naturally. I personally think having a c section is worse than giving birth vaginally. Not saying I'm better than moms who give birth naturally. What makes them so special? I had layers of tissuecut open and a baby pulled out of me. Isn't that enough?

but they do....

they say giving birth is not a medical emergency and ALL babies will be born naturally eventually...

yea this is true, but they may not be alive

If this was back it the old days, I would be dead along with my daughter and I am sure my premie son would be too, although since I would have died before he was born, he would have never been born.I would have never got the chance to ever have another kid, I say screw the old days, I love medical intervention, andI think every mama on this site that has been in a dangerous birthing situation should agree.

Um.... Just because I and other people are 100% for natural childbirth doesn't mean we would rather have our baby die.

If my baby isn't going to make it unless I do a c section, then I am going to do a c section. But I will try everything else first.

Medicine is a wonderful thing IF you need it.

I know what you are saying. I have seen it before on BG.....

I don't agree with no medical intervention because as you said, you risk having a dead child in the end. No way. It is 2009 and technology is advanced for a reason.

I'm all for natural birth, but I always say to go in with an open mind.

I myself wanted to TRY to labor the way nature intended. I did so in a hospital so my mom wouldn't worry... but luckily I was able to go all natural.

I think it's idiotic to make a big deal out of it though. If someone can't.. or chooses not to go natural....so what.. same as if someone chooses TO go natural..

I'm tired of seeing mama's give women a hard time over wanting pain meds.. BUT at the same time I grew tired of women telling me I was CRAZY for going natural... um.. wtf.. crazy?

I can def. agree. That is why I get to irked when some mother who had a natural birth tell me that I didn't really need a C-section.
