First and second labor experiences...
posted 27th Oct
I was just thinking about how easy I had it during my labor. I wasn't in any pain at all until my doctor broke my water at 7 cm. And I didn't have to push for very long before he was born. I think I had it pretty easy, especially for a first time. And I was thinking about how it might be whenever I have another later on in the future. (I know there's no way of knowing until it happens, but it's just got me thinking is all.)
I was wondering how your first and second labor/delivery experiences compared. Was one easier than the other? Both pretty much the same? Elaborate.

I was in labor for 22 hours with my first. I was in excruciating pain and I couldn't push her out. I thought they were literally breaking my bones. She was sunny side up and I hadn't slept in any of those 22 hours. I pushed for 4 hours straight then need a vacuum extraction. I had a 4th degree tear from it and stitches as long as my forearm.
I was in labor for 6 hours with my second. Pain was minimal during but very painful while pushing. I pushed for 10 minutes and he was out. No tears what so ever.

I thought my first one was amazing. I labored for 4 hours and pushed for 15 minutes. All natural.
My second time around I went in they checked me and broke my water and 50 seconds later she was born with out one push. Again all natural.

My first, I was induced, labored on pitocin with no meds for 17 hours, and sent for a c-sec after being stuck at 4cm for like 3 whole hours ( ). My second, I was in labor for about 9 days (contractions strong and 10 minutes apart for a week, but no progress... pure bull!!) and pushed him out in about an hour and a half. I LOVED my VBAC. I think of my birth experience with my son, and I feel full of joy. It was a great experience.

Lets see, my first labor was long and hard. I was in labor for 29 and a half hours and didn't dilated at all until my 24th hour of labor, so here I was stuck at 2cms for 24 hours. I had really strong, intense contraction almost immediately, mostly in my back. I couldn't get my Epidural for 12 hours. Once I got it, everything was fine, but it wore off at 7cms and I felt every bit of pain while pushing. I pushed for an hour and had to have an Episiotomy.
My second labor, I was in labor for 19 hours with NO progression at all. It was a lot easier though, I didn't feel my contractions at all. I didn't even want the Epidural, but I took it because checking me was so so so painful, and they were going to break my water to speed things up. But, sadly, nothing happened and my baby stayed stuck at -2 station. So off to the OR I went. Come to find out her cord was wrapped all around her legs and feet and she would not come down at all.
Two VERY different labors right there.
ETA: I was induced 2 days early with my first and two days late with my second. Their birthdays are June 14, 2007 and September 14, 2009. My babies are exactly 27 months apart.

My first i was induced 1 day overdue (Stupid Dr didn't want to have to come in on Christmas) I was already 3cms anyway. laboured for 15 hours, half hour of pushing. 2 Shots of pethidine... no epi. I didn't tear. Second labour i was induced 11 days overdue, was only dilated to 1cm. Labour was 3 hours 45 minutes. Was a water birth, with no drugs.
