Cats or Dogs with babies/toddlers/kids?

posted 27th Oct
Fun little debate! What do you think? Are dogs or cats better for families with babies/toddlers/children?

I personally love my dogs. They are so gentle with little ones and go to the bathroom outside, not to mention they listen and are easy to contain. BUT they do need regular exercise as well. I've had cats as well (RIP Moses and Petey)but they used to scratch and bite, and I didn't like the litterbox being on the floor in reach of a crawler. They were affectionate but they had a MAJOR attitude when anyone came over and would pee on the bed. And it was impossible to keep them off the counters/ tables and a baby gate wouldn't stop them.

I would never have a cat again when I have little kids... The one we had would chew off the nipples to bottles.. She would climb counters to get to them, Get in the sink.. She was awful.. We had to give her away.. I love my dogs, my kids climb all over the dogs yank their ears and tails with no bad reactions. The cat would scratch them if they got near her..

I grew up with cats and loved them till I had dogs.

I still like cats, but my dogs are much better with my daughter than my mom's cats. She has to roll up the rug in her front door entry way whenever we come up to visit so her one cat won't pee on it out of spite for us being there

Even her "friendly" cat minimally tolerates Amelie, meanwhile my dogs love to play with her.

I have two cats, both of them are GREAT with Abby. Never have any problems with cleanliness, their litterbox is in the laundry room where Abby can't get to it. They never get any kind of attitude, and they let Abby pet them all the time, even give her smooches. It's too cute. I wish she had a puppy to play with, but that's a little farther down the road, lol.

I have a cat but I think a dog would allow my son to play with him more. My cat usually avoids my son and it's sad because he really wants to play with her. He does throw her ball for her now it's cute. But I have a feeling we will be getting a dog eventually.

No such thing as a shitty dog. The people made that dog the way it is. It's not the dog's fault it was raised to be aggressive.

I had 5 cats and a dog when my daughter was born. When she came home my 5 cats smelled her then layed next to her legs. After that they would notice shes there but not really pay attention to her. I guess she was boring to them but when she started sitting upright and playing is when they would be around her more. She would pull there tails and swing them around and they just stood there like they liked it. She basically ruffed up my poor cats lol but they didnt care. As for my dog she liked to lick alot and my daughter didn't like all those kisses so I had to sit my dog down befor bringing my daughter into the room. At the end of the day they all grew to love eachother even more. So I say its 50/50. My daughters first words were Mama and Kitty. Which was kinda crazy.
