getting induced!!! scared.

posted 27th Oct
So tomarrow is my due date and at my doctors appointment she told me she wanted to induce me on monday but to come in sunday night to take some pill to "ripen my cervix" but she explained absolutely nothing about the procedure to me and i am scared out of my mind lol. i knew i'd eventually have to give birth (obviously) but damn it just hit me! what should i expect? whats the induction procedure like? do i eat before hand?etc etc. any information would be greatly appreciated.

is there a reason why they're inducing you?

The cervidyl[sp?] is a medicine thats put in your cervix to help soften it.
My sister was induced with pitocin and had a pretty good labor!
You also arn't suppose to eat after midnight with an induction, good luck!

she just said that they want to induce because i would bepast my due date. i guess she doesn't like to wait the 2 weeks after for some odd reason.

yeah they're doing the pitocin monday morning after the pill thing from the night before works its magic.

My OB wouldn't let me go past 10 days overdue, unless I absolutly wanted not to be induced. She recommends thinking about induction at 5 days overdue. She also said that the baby is not gaining anything by staying in past the due date.

definitely eat beforehand. most hospitals wont let you eat during labor.

they will give you cervadil to soften your cervix. and then start a pitocin drip to get your contractions going. pitocin contractions are normally more intense so hopefully you are not apposed to some sort of pain relief to take the edge off. i was induced and had back labor and was more than ready for the epi when i finally got it. my total labor was 9 hrs or so and i had to push for 2 1/2 hrs since my son was sunny side up and stuck. they were contemplating the vacuum and forceps when he finally came out.

Your Dr. is inducing you 4 days after your due date? I wouldn't do that, if I were you...unless they see a medical need.

My friend just had her baby on Friday, she was due on Oct 13 and they chose to induce ( I understand, sort of, because she was 10 days overdue) HOWEVER, her baby was only 7 lbs 4 oz...which is just average for birth weight.

What I'm trying to say is they were probably off on her due date, as the size of the baby indicated she wasn't "late" at all.

wow. are they supposed to be facing down? i was never sure about that. and i heard that being induced hurts way more but that it lasts a lot shorter than natural labor. and i also heard that you can get your epidural(sp?) sooner? any of that true?

hmm.. I would wait.. but thats just me..
my labor went well.. progressed fast.. but it was for medical reasons, I wouldve just waited if I couldve.. theres a high percentage that need a c-section

Nope, my OB was the same way.
She said that everyday past your due date increases the risk of the meconium [sp?], c-section risk, and stillbirth.
I was set for an induction 3 days after my due date, but ended up going into labor ON my due date!
