wow, none of my kids have napped after age 3. And if they did, watch out. I'm the same way though, if I take a nap, you do not want to be around me for the rest of the day.

Lol, in the book it actually recommends "quiet time" or a "hush hour" for kids over 3. They can sleep, read or just rest but they must be quiet to rest their bodies. I thought it was interesting.

Shep is 2.5 and he is napping now, because he is sick and I was in bed with him so he could rub my back, but otherwise he doesn't nap unless we are in the car. He wakes up really grumpy too though. My husband on the other hand could literally sleep away the day, like 5 days in a row.

Wow. Milo's not doing a good job of following that chart. Some days he only naps once (13 months), and today he went 7 hours between his nap and bed time. He was tired there at the end, but he handled it pretty well. If his morning nap is too late, he is impossible to get down for an afternoon nap. I need to be better about staying home and catering to his nap schedule, but I'm selfish and I like to go to the gym in the morning.
Overall though, he's getting the total amount of sleep he needs, he's just never had a schedule. oh well, I like flexibility

most people don't realize how much sleep thier child needs.   it's kinda sad.
I mean of course not every child's needs will be exactly the same, but 80% of kids do not get the sleep they need - and are cranky b/c of it.
People wonder why they have a hard time getting their kids ( and babies to sleep) why they're so edgy/cranky/moody and the majority of the time it's b/c their bodies are suffering form an extended lack of sleep. - sleep deprivation.
Contributes to how sick your kid gets too - it's horrible ofr the immune system...

and yet in teh anme of " having a life" all to often - me included- we shuffle our kids around ot this or that - even telling ourselves we're doing it for them, for solcialization or whatever.....
When what our kids really need is a solid routine, sleep, fresh food, and more one on one time with their parents.

*gets down from my soap box*

I don't think w always realize the things that make the biggest difference to our children.

I agree. Corbin does not nap as much as he should..despite trying to get him to. *sigh* I spend hours a day walking/singing/nursing him to sleep for naps and bed.

You do start putting him down at the very first signs of tiredness? I couldn't believe the difference it made with my boys. It never took them very long to go form tired to over-tired and that makes a world of difference when it comes to them being able to settle down and fall asleep.
I get distracted and miss that window of oppertunity and then I have to fight with them and struggle to get them soothed enough to fall asleep.... if I catch that window then it's off to la al land with not a complaint.

I swear by " Secrets of the baby Whisperer"

Is it anti-CIO? I never know when to start looking for tired signs. He's teething a lot so he's always cranky..

absolutely.

She recognizes that sometimes there will be crying, but she does not advocate CIO at all. Which I liked. I mean we can't prevent every single tear - sometimes we have to do things that are in their best interests that they don't like or done understand and they cry - but that doesn't mean we leave them to cry without any comfort, or alone.   that makes me sad

Her BIGGEST key is learner to understand your own child's cues and temperments.
It's a great book.

I might have to try it out. DS usually takes 2 naps a day for an hour each. Today he took a 30 min nap and a 45 min nap.

thats frustrating   I know how it goes.

neil usually gets a 2h nape form 2-4 ( he's 2 and a half) and Caleb swing between one big nap of 2-3hours or 2 short naps of about 45-1...... He's so unpredictable.... I know if I just never left he house he might fall into a pattern, but that's somewhat unrealistic.
