Health Insurance

posted 27th Oct
It's Annual enrollment time at my Office and I wanted some mommy Insight from other Working moms. This past year my daughter and I used the Aetna HMO which was hella expensive, like 150 every pay period which is the 15th and the 30th of the month......... Any way I was thinking about changing to PPO because it's way cheaper like 50 a pay period for both of us!  Reason Being is because I don't go to the doc. for much of anything other than an annual pap, with Birth Control. On the other hand, my daughter has to go every 3-4 months or so which isn't much and she might even go less since she is 16 months now.

Which option do you use and why......... PPO or HMO

If PPO covers everything for you and her that you guys need just go with that.

We have PPO and it works well for us. It is expensive for things that are not routine care for us, but it will depend on the exact type of plan you have. Regular annual exams for us and all of the boys' well-child visits and vaccines are completely free with our plans because they fall under preventative care. If they are sick or have any other problem that they need to be seen then we pretty much pay all of the insurance company's adjusted rate until we meet our deductible...which unfortunately is VERY high. As long as everyone is healthy, it's cheap, though!

OK, and that sounds great to me. Especially for me because I rarely go to the Dr. And with my daughter the PPO would be perfect. I am going to do a little more research........... Thanks so much for your input!

PPO is the best. They cover everything. HMO is kinda hard to use because some Dr. wont work with you.

Really??? What my understanding is on PPO is that you definately can pick your OWN Dr. without having a set PCP. Which is something I like. Also, it seems like a PPO is a great choice if you don't visit the Dr. much because your premiums are lower, but the deductible isa bit higher. I just want less money taken out of my check

This past year I have been on HMO and it sucked because it costs sooo much

I have HMO now. It sucks big time. I believe HMO is cheaper and it's not worth it. I rather pay more and get more. HMO don't allow you to pick your own DR. at ALL. I hate that shit. "What you get is what you pay for."

PPOs are nice if you don't need to use them. What is the maximum allotment? What is your co-pay? Deductible? Coverage limits?

My PPO sucks. It covers the doctors visits, but it won't cover vaccines, lab works, ultrasounds, x-rays - plus the emergency room benefits SUCK.

Just a heads up.

There is a $400 deductable
Once I meet my Deductible of $400 my Co-pay is %10
All Preventive care is %100 covered even without the deductible being met.

Not sure what the max coverage is.... I am looking now

That doesn't seem to be bad at all, depending on your max amount.

That is similar to mine...until you look at my max amount which is only $500 per person peryear. Yeah, its ridiculous.

OMG!!!! $500.............. that is ridiculous. Thats about enough to cover onevisit without daring to go to the ER.....lol.... It kinda makes me want to stick with my HMO....... I did have to visit the ER and the bill was covered 100%........... and copays were 35

If our work gave the choice, I would go with a better plan in a heartbeat! I hate having this PPO because when I really need it, it does NOTHING. Its great for little stuff, but big stuff, it sucks.
