I had an epidural and I didn't have any damage. No tears, no hemrhoids, nothing.

I don't personally think the epi had much to do with it.I mean my 2nd had an epi and no problems.I first ,well it was my first and I didn't know about perineal massaging so I had a 4th degree tear.The 3rd baby I had no epi.So that couldn't have contributed to those issues.I don't know .

I'm not saying that having an epi will cause damage, I'm saying it can. Because you can't feel it, you don't know when to stop pushing. If you can feel yourself stretching, you know when to stop pushing to avoid it and give yourself time to stretch more. I've seen it a lot unfortunately (I'm a doula).
