24 weeker?

posted 26th Oct
My friend had her little boy saturday night at 24 weeks 2 days..
He is hooked up to a million machines and has tubes and wires coming out of everywhere.. The doctors haven't given Megan ( friend) alot of info on his odds.. That sounds bad, but I dont know how else to state it.. Has anyone else had a 24 weeker and can share their success with me so I can pass it on to her?

Thank you in advance..

I haven't but I will be praying for her and baby.
My grandma had my uncle at 26 weeks and they kept him beside the fire and had no machines and he survived.
Good luck

I had my litte boy at 24w6d in June of '07. He weighed 560 grams and was 11.25". It is a long hard road. He had a 130 day NICU stay. ( which was shorter than was anticipated   he had alot of lung troubles even for a 24 wkr) He came home on O2 until 15 months. He is now 28 months old and is caught up to his adj age developmentally and is overall very healthy. The only "issues" he has from his prematurity is some nearsightedness and strabismus ( he wears glasses for correction, he is still under weight only 20-21 lbs, he still needs daily neb treatments for BPD, and he is being watched closly for delayed hearing loss ( his speech is on target however). Considering some of the things we were told in the NICU I feel his issues are very minor. He has always defied the odds. Anything is possible. I have a friend whose grandaughter is a surviving 23 week triplet. She did lose her sight due to ROP but is amazing and perfectly healthy otherwise. There was also a 23 week little boy born shortly after my son and we saw him at the reunion picnic in May and he looked amazing. Sorry this got long. I would be happy to share more of our story or answer any questionsif you would like just pm me. I will keep your friend and the LO in my prayers.

My aunt had her baby, Shelby, at exactly 24 weeks (due to preeclampsia). She weighed 1lb 15oz. She was in the hospital almost 4 months. She is now 12 years old, beautiful, happy, healthy, and extremely smart.

He's extremely smart when it comes to maths but struggles a little with english type things. I'm sure your friends baby will be fine ^_^

I can!!! I AM a 22 weeker.....I weighed 2 lb, 3 oz, and i got a 10 percent chance survival rate through my first day......i turned blue a few times and even coded, but they were able to bring me back. They kept giving me horrible survival rates until i was about 2 weeks old, and then they said id make it but with problems, such as retardation, growth problems, and other horrible stuff.....well i had so much shit hooked to me i looked like an alien. I was on oxygen and a whole slew of other things.....and in the NICU for 3 1/2 months! Finally my parents brought me home and though i have always been apetite person (WHICH is not bad because i look good lol), i thrived and even advanced in my milestones. Today i am 27, will be 28 in December---got good grades in school, no defects except for some eye problems that were fixed, and i have a life and family of my own!!

I just had a 24 weeker on November 6th. He weighed 1 lb 9 oz and 13 in long. So far he's doing really good, but everyday is different. I'm praying for your friend though! There are a lot of success stories, so it gives us all hope.

My son (Joshua) was also 1 lbs and 9 ounces. He was 12 and 3/4 inches long so pretty much 13 inches. Hows you son doing?
