military pay question

So my husband will meet his 2 year mark in the Navy in February. As far as I know, your pay is raised once you hit 2 years. I'm wondering if any of you know does this pay take effect immediately or after a few months? So far from experience no pay has started immediately. He was moved up to E4 in May and didn't start seeing the pay until the 1st of October, and there was no backpay for that whole 4-5 months that he was already an E4. So is this how every single pay raise goes?


Also, this question is for military wives who are SAHM with 1 child. How much did your husband get back for his taxes the first year after you having your child? I have been unemployed all year so he will be claiming me and the baby will also be claimed because he will be here before the end of the year.

I think every branch is different sometimes... but ours always hits every August on time!

I'd be asking for some back pay if it didn't hit when it should've for ya'll before..!!!

ahh my hubby is navy too...
there will be no back pay... and it wont start right away

I was in the army and just hit my 2 year mark before i got out, pay raises based on years of service usually take effect right away from what i have seen, i was also finance.. im not sure how it works in the navy but just have him check his pay statement on the month's pay after his 2 year mark.. you should see a difference

Sounds like he gettin screwed. my hubby in army and when he moves up a grade it start by that next month. i know they do get raise for two yr mark but it shouldnt take that long for it to take effect. i would ask him if he has talk to anyone about that cuz i mean he serves our country he should be gettin the money he is suppost to

like hubby and i got married in june and went to psd they said we should get it by july 1st.. and we didnt start getting it until sugust 15th.. and got back pay of the 3 checks they missed.. my hubby made E4 and went a year with out E4 pay but got no back pay

does that mak sense?

yeah they have screwed around about the clothing allowance.. it was supposed to come oct 1st.. he went in they said if its not there the 16th then come talk to them.. he did they were like umm deff be there nov 1st... i swear if we dont get it im gonna be pissed... cause thats like 400-500 something we need

haha seriously I know my husband wouldn't demand it either. He probably would say he's trying but I know he won't do much. Do you think they would actually do it though if they were constantly bothered about it or is that just their way of doing things?

idk cause im not real familiar with their policy on back pay all i know is when we did get some back pay it was hella nice lol..

but if i were your hubby i'd deff go in there and say look i want back pay.. tell them its bullshit[unless its a cheif] how would you feel if you were in my shoes... thats what we did for bah and got total back pay=]

Yea, he should at least ask about it cuz im pretty sure he hasnt even mentioned it so far. And when I think of it, I'm not even positive we ever got back every single thing we were owed for the move here to FL. He says we got all the BAH backpay but I know he's always wondering about the move pay. But there's a number he's supposed to call about that and the number doesn't work and he doesn't know how to find out. If I'm correct we were supposed to get at least over 1000$ for the move.


Oh and the pay raise sucks to! We were waiting for so long to see the e4 raise and when it showed up it was like 70$ or something. He was pissed haha. That really didn't help much at all.

Did anyone see my 2nd part of the question? About the income tax. Sorry, I just like to know or at least have some idea of what's ahead.

I'm actually a wuss when it comes to that also. He tries but he just sounds like an idiot lol. He doesn't really get mean he just kinda.. idk. I don't really know what to say when it comes to a bill... then again I guess I don't like to jump to conclusions either because most of the time it really is just something I missed or misread.
