They really do! Their parents treat them "special" or "different" and that actually puts them at a disadvantage.... I treat her just like my other ones. I don't ever give her a reason to think she can give up, or get away with being lazy or bitchy, just because she has DS... She has chores, responsibilties, and I definately don't baby her! She knows exactly what she's doing, lol... She's kind of manipulative and sneaky... I don't mind though, it lets me know she's pretty much just like any other teenager. She rolls her eyes, thinks I'm embarrassing, talks shit under her breath, lmao...
Some people don't give special needs kids the benefit of the doubt... Treating them like they "don't know any better", just because they have a disability, gives them a sense of entitlement, like the world owes them something because they are "different"... Those kids are gonna grow up and get a huge reality check when they get older. Society doesn't really give a shit, and you don't get off the hook, just because you're disabled, lol.... If your an asshole, your gonna get treated like an asshole in this world!

totally true! if i ever have one i'd hope to do the same. i've always wondered one thing about having a disabled child. do you explain to them that they are different or is it not really something she would ever think about?
