I was taking Audrey out as soon as i left the hospital. They say not before 6 weeks but being cooped up in a house for 6 weeks with a newborn could make anyone go crazy.

As far as the flu goes, just don't let people touch him or take him anywhere crowded.

I had to take my daughter out when she was very young b/c my husband was deployed so I didnt have a choice. What I did when i took her out was left her in her infant carrier, and covered the open part with a receiving blanket so people couldnt touch her or look at her (i was very paranoid! Lol) And I put the carrier on the inside part of the shopping cart instead of the very top part.

Audrey was spending the night with her grandparents since she was a couple weeks old. I say it's fine, just lay down some ground rules.

Just make sure you tell them or whoever is at the house TONS of hand washing and sanitizing wipes for surfaces. I hand wash every single time I pick her up just to be safe.

I didn't take my daughter out for the first two weeks. i'm very protective though, I don't want my newborn being touched or messed with at that age. H1N1 and seasonal flu both are airborn and just breathing in the bacteria in the air where someone has just recently coughed or sneezed... she could get it. Be very very careful. My doctor just hospitalized a 6 month old baby and she is in the NICU, they don't even know for sure if she'll make it and if she does, she'll apparently have long term lung damage! It scared the heck out of me and my daughter is 15 months old!

He won't get H1N1 just from being in the general population. If that were the case we would all have it. H1N1 is contracted via droplets (sneezing, coughing). It's not airborne.

They can catch alot of stuff just from the air. My 14 month old just had Roseola. The doc said she could have caught it at the mall, just from some one coughing that was walking in front of us. I didnt know it was that easy to catch something. Makes ya so paranoid.

I know! It scares the crap outta me. You never know... I've just known a lot of women around here that have had their child catch the flu already... and they are not in good condition, especially the little little ones.. I'm keeping my daughter out of the public as much as possible and sanitizing everything.

Its horrible out in public. People are always trying to touch them. The other day at the mall,my mom had my 3 month old in the snugli. Some lady tried to touch her face. My mom just kept turning away, she was like yes shes sweet, thank you, but please dont touch her. The lady wasnt offended, seemed confused though lol.
