Best formula for preemie.

My friend had her baby at 33 weeks, September 29th 2009.
Her pedi told her to do similac neosure because it's best for preemies.. but it's giving him realllly bad gas and constipation.
What should she switch too?

I wouldnt without the Pedi knowing. A preemie needs that type of formula for a reason.

I would tell her to ask her Doctor.

Whatever her doctor tells her to.
No switching, expecially a preemie, without doctors orders.
It can make them sick and not able to keep anything down.

my son was just put on similac neosure because he was a preemie and he still isnt growing as fast as they want him too but the enfamil version of it is called Enfamil enfacare lipil our pedi told us that we could use either or because they have all the same things in it

Gavin and Evan are on similac neosure because they were preemie and they can't get switched to a different formula until their 6 months.

My son was a 32 weeker...he only weighed 2lbs 14oz. He was given breastmilk in a bottle for the first couple months of his life( i pumped). But then he was put on Enfamil Enfacare Lipil....its got extra calories in it. It worked great...my son is now 14 months old and he weighs 28 lbs.

The best formula for a preemie is one that meets the baby's needs. Another high calorie formula is Enfamil Enfacare, but she should try changing her feeding habits, or bottles to reduce gas first.

Enfamil Enfacare....NICU said we should be on it for up to 9 months.....It works so well because of the added calories! And for gas....cause my preemie has issues in that area.....Simethicone .3ml....basically Mylicon....but Equate works just as well. It works wonders for my little tooter

You can actually puta preemie on any formula. However, if you switch to a lower calorie formula you would need to get the extra calorie powder which is only available by prescription. It is the same calorie additive that they put in the breast milk in NICU. It very well could be the polyvitimin drops in addition to the iron in the formula causing the gas and constipation. That is usually the first step they take unless their is a serious health concern ex  non-stop crying, vomiting, runny stools, rash. A simple switch to a vitimin without iron usually clears it up and most peds. are happy to write a script for an iron free vitamin. We had to do that at seperate times for both twins.
