Update on My Baby Girl Sydney Elisabeth....

hey guys... im home for the night for the first time since the 21st when my lil girl was admited into the nicu 2 days after she was born... sydney is still in rockford memorial hospital... but she is doing good. we will be going up there every day from here on out but probably not spending the night very much thank you all so much for you thoughts and prayers. the condition that she has is called situs inversus. all of her organs are on the oppositesides that ours are on. she is an exact mirror image of us. but thankfully all of them are in the right proportion and functioning correctly! they think she may have a touch of pnamonia (but are not 100% sure that is what it is. ) they are treating her as if that is what it is though. also they will be doing a biopsey in the next couple of days to see if she has another condition that goes hand in hand with the inversus. its called ciliary dysmotility syndrome. it is where the cilia in your nose and lungs dont function properly and you can not push infection out for yourself. it is a 50% chance that she will have this but if she does it just means that we will have to keep her away from ppl that are sick because she will be prone to getting sick very easily. and she will need help from my DH and myself to get the secretions out of her system. but she will be ok. if she has this DH and i will will recieve special training to help her and we will be set up with a specialist to check in with to make sure she is doing well. they expect her to be home in a week or two. but no longer then thanksgiving. thank you all for your prayers and if you could please continue to pray for her until she gets home it would be greatly appritiated. love to all of you and your LO's..............candi

I'm glad you have an answer, I know girls that are identical triplets and one of them has situs inversus and all three are perfectly normal and healthy 21 year olds.

Good luck and keep us updated! I hope her pneumonia gets better soon and she comes back home. Your little girl and your family are in my prayers.

if she has the cilia thing then she will be in the doc alot and may get sick real easy but other then that she should be able to live a normal life

the only thing i can think of to do is search for it in the keyword thingie. Or maybe even post a thread asking and someone might know of another mamma on here and can give u ther page if ther is another one

well thanks ladies.... im going to call the hospital now and check on my LO then spend some well needed resting time with DH ....thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers!

So glad she was born alive...that was the big defeat. Docs can help treat her and all should be well. You'll continue to stay in my thoughts! Congrads! I bet she is beautiful! I love the name you choose. That's my cousins daughters name. It's not too common!

first...congrats on having her  ....second....I'm glad she is doing better. She is in good hands at Rockford Memorial though, they are great there.
