Has anyone had a NEC (necoritizing entercolitis) baby?

My son died of NEC on April 20th this year. It was so fast and shocking. He was perfectly fine and woke up sick. He passed away a day after getting sick, he was 1 month 1 day old!
Sending you floating kisses to Heaven my sweet baby!

I'm sorry for your loss! They thought my daughter had NEC the day we were supposed to bring her home from the NICU, but it ended up not being NEC. I was mortified when I heard she might have it and what it was. I can't imagine how you are feeling.

pardon my ignorance, but what is NEC?

NEC is an intestinal disease that only premature babies get. It kills the tissue in the intestines and can sometimes cause a hole in them. They aren't sure what causes NEC and they don't have a very good cure for it. If NEC is caught early they will stop feedings and start antibiotics. My son was the 1% to get the very fast acting NEC. Although, he never had a hole in his intestines they swelled really bad. He had surgery to try to remove part of his intestines, but the doctor said it had already killed his entire digestive system. Most babies that survive the surgery for NEC will have short bowel syndrome and possibly more surgeries later in life. My son swelled so bad that blood flow could not reach his kidneys. His kidneys shut down and he passed. I like to think that he didn't feel any pain, but I am sure he did. I know now that he is a perfect little boy in Heaven and will never feel pain again!
