My Labor Story (quite long!)
posted 22nd Oct
So, I know I haven't been available for quite some time, but I want everyone to know that I had my baby on Wednesday, September 30th. She's so beautiful. I will post pictures as soon as I can. Her name is Kyria Michelle Neal. She weighed 7lbs. 7oz., and was 19inches long. Here is the story of her arrival.
On Wednesday morning, I was getting ready for work. My SIL stopped by on her way to take my neice to Head Start, and I noticed that my oldest daughter was still in bed. When I went to find out what was wrong, she told me that she had fallen on her knee the day before, and she was in pain. So much for the trip to work. Now I had to take her to the ER for treatment. Well, while I was laughing and talking about how my OB was on call today, and I should just go in to see him and ask him did he want to induce my labor since I was 39wks, as I walked down my hallway, my water broke. So, now, there are two of us on the way to the ER. My daughter, and me. How hilarious! My SIL drove us, and I let her take my daughter while the staff wheeled me in to labor and delivery. Well, this delivery wasn't exactly textbook. I wasn't progressing, so they started pitocin at about 2:15. Well, even before that I had an ordeal. It took about seven different doctors and nurses, nine needle sticks, and three shots of lanocaine in order for them to even start my IV. I was very dehydrated and very swollen, they said. After they put the IV in the center of my wrist, the dr. warned me to be careful b/c the next try would be in my neck. Geez!
Okay, so they induced me at about 2p.m. I told the anesthesiologist not to dally over dinner because I would need them at around 3:15. I was right. that's when they had to start my epidural, which again took more than two tries to get in. I should have known I was in trouble then. Well, long story short, Kyria was born by 5:45p.m. the same day, vaginally, but by vaccum extraction b/c she was turned the wrong way. Everyone was happy. My daughter cut the umbilical cord. But I knew that my delivery was hard. Everything seemed fine for a couple of hours until I sat up to write something down, and began to feel faint. OMG! They discovered that I was losing alot of blood and had a lot of clots left in me. I felt like I was losing consciousness, and I couldn't breathe. They had to kick the family out, and all of these people ran into my room. I was so scared, but they put me back together again and I began to feel better.
Then it happened a couple of hours later. The nurse ran into my room, and I saw my bp cuff register, like, seventy-eight, and the room went faint again. I say my OB come in , and mind you, the epidural line was in but not on. He started pressing on my uterus, and all of this blood began just pouring out. Then he reached up into me and started pulling stuff out. All I could hear him say was "look at all of this tissue!" So, he's telling me if it happens again, I will have to get a d&c. Okay, so now I'm wondering if I'm going to make it b/c the nursing staff is asking me is it okay to give me blood if I need it. Yes, it's okay.
So, I know this is a long story, and I apologize for it, but the end of the story is that baby Kyria is just perfect. It's been three weeks, and instead of giving me blood, I had to go in for IV iron infusion treatments for the past few weeks. At my lowest point, my blood count was 6.4. On Tuesday, it was 10.0, and I don't have to go in for treatments any longer. I just wanted to communicate that I am okay, and still hanging in there. And now that I am better, I can concentrate on enjoying my little bundle of love!
