Ary just spelled at home and it shook me to the core

Aryanne has a slight head cold. She has been congested by so far it has been manageable. I had her sleeping in her car seat so she was as upright as possible knowing it would help. She starts making the most scary and pitiful noises ever. She is completely blocked with a very thick congestion in her mouth, throat, and nose. You can hear her trying to breathe but nothing happens just awful noises. Her eyes are starting to roll back into her head and she is going very limp. I immediately grab a nose suction and trying clearing out both her nose and mouth while giving her vigorous stim and blow by oxygen cranked up to 4 liters. She was responding to nothing. She would snap to for a few secs struggle then start to go lethargic again. After a min orso (it seemed like forever) I finally clear out enough of her airway that she can make pathetic weak crying noises. I continue clearing out her airway and giving her blow by. Eventually I get enough out that she has respitory movements again. I continue her on the blow by til her color starts to reappear.She turned very pale, almost grayish, while being dusky and her hands were visibly blue. I then kept her on continuous oxygen for a little bit longer til her respitory rates and efforts appeared normal. I didn't even have time to grab the pulse ox. monitor during this because she need intervention that bad. Now I am a complete wreck on the inside. Spelling at home is so different then in the hospital or at the Ronald McDonald House. There medical staff is 5 minutes away at most. Here, not so lucky. 20 minutes the fastest. All I kept saying in my head is OH My God 911 couldn't even make it in time, 911 won't make it in time. It hands down was the scariest thing I have ever encoutered in my life. Because I was able to intervene I called the peds office andwas told, great job mom just up her decongestant a bit. WTF! Now I know how my husband felt when they said they were releasing Bryan Hunter from the hospital because we had the equipment, training, andexperience to handle his medical emergncies at home. But right now all I can think is OH MY FUCKING GOD MY DAUGHTER COULDOF JUST DIED AT MY HOUSE IN MY ARMS. My hands won't stop shaking. The last time I was this shook up was when she had the first cluster spell they made me handle on my own in NICU where she spelled 7 times in a row, had a heart rate and pulse ox. in the 30s and the monitors leads all failed after the 2nd spell and didnt have a chance to get fixed until after the 5th spell. I understand that it was great training for moments like this. But this moment will haunt me til' my dying day.

omg, that is SO scary, im so sorry!!! whenever it happens it will always e scary, but look what an awesome momma she has, you saved her   good job honey!

OMG sorry to hear that mama. But great job in keeping your head and doing what you had to do. Great job mama

Thanks but I hate that I now feel like home isn't safe for them. I was so happy to have them come home that I was like Oh yeah I can handle it no sweat. And obviously the instincts take over to save them during a S.L.T.E. but I hate that I now feel like my husband. If they are still weak enough to the point we have to ressucitate them maybe they shouldn't be home. Even though the hospital won't keep them because the risk of them catching something is far worse. Idk. I am just a shooken up wreck atm.

omg i was holding my heart reading this panicking ..... i cant even imagine how your feeling right now i am so sory my love get saline !!!!! it helps TONS with congestions and get a tub of vicks and put it in a bpot and boil it and let the smelly steam full the house

i firmly believe, especially with everything going around now, that if she can be home, she should be with you. clearly you know enough to know what to do, even though in the moment youre not sure you do. i also firmly believe that you being the one to do those things for her is an amazing gift that is better from her mommy than an unknown nurse. youre amazing

I have been using saline. They advised us to not use vicks because of their breathing issues. Perhaps I will google it though and decide for myself. I DO NOT want to go through this again. thanks xoxoxo

i wouldnt, honestly. its too strong, ive never used it and never will. im homeopathic enough that i use a menthol-y essential oil; peppermint, spearmint, eucalyptus, etc, and use that. its all natural obviosuly, and just a tiny bit on like, a kleenex next to their heads is strong enough to be awesome.

True. I am just paranoid now that something bad will happen at home. I know in my heart of hearts that I will always react and do everything I can. But the what if monster is eating me alive atm. Blahhhhhhhh

but vicks helps breathing .... its eucalyptus a known plant to help breathing and clear out nasal ect .....what exactly di they say and no pproblem .

its actually all over the internet, mostly they tell you its too strong for ANYONE especialyl babies and especially premies, it can actually burn their nasal passages and esophagus.....

youve gotta BREATHE momma, and just be thankful you knew what to do and acted qwuickly enough, and she was strong enough to respond!!!

Well I have been told three different things by three different poeple.

1. No. Because it can cause episodes of respitory distress more then it will help clear up symptoms

2. No.Because it can relax the child to the point they have an apnea episode.

3. No. Because they were preemies born with R.D.S.

I have been googling my heart out and I am not having any luck. Do you know of any helpful articles or sites?
