Quoting ♥LuvMyCRV©♥:“ you consider that cussing? I was thinking the "F" word or the "B" word or the like hahaha”

Would you want your small child to know either words? It's still cussing and should not be in a movie that parents think was intended for children.

My husband and I liked it, I don't think I would take a kid under the age of maybe ten. There is some violence in the form of like throwing things and yelling. Nothing really terrible happens but it does get kind of scary, like you don't know what is going to happen. It also deals with a lot of emotions, which kids aren't going to understand, hence the PG rating.

I do get what you're saying but it's kind of inappropriate for a child's movie.

From what I was told in Entertainment Weekly like 6 weeks before the movie came out was that it was aimed at adults who grew up with the story, and not to take children. It also said the trailers shoud show the coldness and emotion. I haven't seen it yet, but I knew just from the trailers not to take a child... even though London is only 5 months and wouldn't care either way.

I don't know. Maybe it's just difference in opinion, but I think a parent should always watch a questionable movie, or ask someone who has seen it, before taking their child. Not taking them and then complaining.

Not saying you are. Just saying how I feel about movie going.

I know what you mean. That's actually WHY I watched the movie first, because DH wanted to take Adrian. I won't be taking him though. Not at all.

My own personal review of it:

I think it can be a good movie for a certain age of children (over age 6) to see. I found that there was an underlying theme that being a "family" can really be hard at times, but as long as you love each other, it'll be okay... which to me, is a good message for kids....

ETA: And I didn't think it was scary at all.... the monsters got mad sometimes but it wasn't terrifying or anything. And there were A LOT of children in the audience while I was watching it, and none of them seemed scared oor anything.

personally, I think that movie looks stupid as hell (but then again I never read the book) and those monsters look like cannibals to me. =/ Im glad my daughter is only 2 months and doesnt even know what a movie is right now.

It makes sense though that it's getting mixed reviews, the book was (and sometimes still is) seen as controversial when it was published in the 60s....

I'm surprised how many people haven't read the book!

some of the same reasons the movie is getting bad reviews... it depicts a little boy "being bad" and the mother sending the boy to his bed without supper (in the book) was seen as cruel. The monsters were "too scary" for little kids.
If you search online for something like "most banned children's books" I'll bet it'll be listed....
