A question for you ladies who planned to have a natural birt

I'm just curious as I'm planning to have a natural birth, I'm praying i won't give in to the pain. I have an average pain tolerancy, but i think with the right techniques it can be done (: give me some hope lol.
Also could you tell me what your pain tolerancy is?

Thanks Mama's !!

The pain wasn't unbearable. I had too many people encouraging me to get an epi. My mom and even the doctor's were like just do ittttttt. It finally got to the point where I couldn't put up a fight to their relentlessness. This time I plan on telling anyone who has the nerve to push medicine to clam up or gtfo.

I planned to go natural, but when the contractions got bad I was begging for the epi. The doc told me there was no point getting it since I was 10cms dilated anyway, so I ended up going natural. Totally worth it

I feel like I had a pretty high tolerance for pain when I had my daughter last year because I had already given birth once and knew what to expect. Which is why, I knew when I had my daughter last year that I wanted an epi. I handled the labor with my son for 3-4 of the 5 1/2-6 hours I was in labor with him and I couldn't take it anymore and asked for the epi and it was fabulous. So when I had my daughter, I knew I wanted one again. However, she came too quickly and I was forced to have her naturally. If it were up to me, I would have had the epi again. I had back labor with both my kids and it is NO JOKE!

Good luck. More likely than not, you will end up asking for a epi.

I feel as though I have a high pain tolerance. I was planning a natural birth, and I went through with it the only thing i had was Pitocin because i wasnt dilating fast enough... and they say contractions are a lot worse when you are on pitocin, but with the right people there encouraging you and telling you you can do it and not letting you give up and breathing through your contractions helps out a lot!! For me the actually delivery process was more painful then the contractions

My nurse was saying I know you are going to be asking for that epi when the pitocin starts hitting you!! THOUGHT WRONG!!

yah, def talk with your doctors and nurses before hand so they dont push you into getting one. also dont get pitossin and the pain wont be so strong. i had a natural home birth with a midwife at the age of 20. i loved it and will do it again.

I had actually planned to get an epi bcuz I have no pain tolernce whatsoever (I freak out just to get a piercing!) but the doctor told me I was a perfect candidate for natural birth if I wanted to do it. I said what the fuck, lets do it! It was really painful, im not gunna lie. Before I felt the need to push they had me in the shower in the hospital room and my bf had the water beating on my back, that did help. I was in labor for 6 hours but only pushed 1 hour. The most important thing to remember is breathing thru the pain. Im so happy I did it and will do it again!

I had wanted to go 'natural' -but I just want to let people know that the accepted definition of a 'natural childbirth' being SIMPLY without drug pain relief is Actually rather uninformed.
You can have a natural childbirth without Needing to experience much pain at all.
If you learn about how your body works, and learn to relax During the first stage contractions and Between the second stage ones, it is Very possible to have a very comfortable natural delivery -without Needing the pain meds cuz there doesn't need to be a whole lot of pain. A couple of the main areas there is bound to be Some pain is when you're about finished dilating and the last 5-6 contractions to fully dilate will be stronger and likely a bit painful, and when crowning there will be a 'burning' sensation or feeling like you will burst or that something needs to give way. Most women at that point are afraid they will tear, but if they relax COMPLETELY they will Not tear. Your skin 'down there' is actually very stretchy, and if you can relax Enough -there is no need to tear at all -even if you think you're small or your baby's big...
feel free to check out my thread on Natural Childbirth -it's long but has a Lot of info on it -including why relaxation is so important in labor, some relaxation techniques and exercises, and a little about how your body is made and works and what causes pain and what to do about it.
hope this helps ~KP

I just typed my entire birth story and it vanished. I am pissed. Lol.

Long story short.

35 hours or so into labor Doctor convinces me to get epi because I won't dialate and Autumn has low heartrate. Dialated to 4. Still.
Thought about it.
Doc mentions C-Section because of dropping heartrate.
I get epi.
Sleep for 45 minutes.
Wake up during a contraction feeling EVERYTHING.
Screams at nurse "BABY IS COMING OUT!"
Nurse says "No you aren't ready."
Nurse checks "Wow, your baby has lots of hair! I think you're having this baby without a doctor."
Scream. Push.
Doctor shows up.
20 minutes later my beautiful Autumn is born. I felt everything. Including tearing. I had awful tearing, and I think it's because the birth went SO fast.

In this situation I am thankful for the epi because it allowed me to relax enough to have a beautiful, healthy baby girl without having to be cut open.

However, I wouldn't get one again unless I felt it was my only way out. I get weird twinges up my spine that start from the spot where they inserted the needle. I am convinced that the epi did this.

I had an epi my first time around and this last labor and delivery I went all natrual. I was induced with pitocin the first time, this time around I only let them break my water and told them I wasnt getting pitocin unless I had an epidural... needless to say the only anesthesiologist on the floor was called in to an emergancy c section and I went without the epidural and pitocin (which I am greatful for because I REALLY wanted an all natural birth) lol. I survived. The pain wasnt that bad once I focused on breathing deeply and slowly through each contraction and worked on relaxing my whole body through each one too. I bought the book the Bradley Method of Childbirth and it helped a lot. I read that book front to back twice.
