We're diving in...

Okay. Whoo... so we started potty training today. Part of me is relieved I finally pushed myself to do it, part of me is scared I don't know what I got myself into...

Aidsn and I had a very interesting little talk discussing pee-pee, diapers, pee pee, potty. Lol... and he seems pretty excited. He sat on his little potty for a while, kept looking down, standing up and looking in saying "pee-pee?" and then sitting back down... kept checking... eventually I just asked "Aidan, do you NEED to pee pee?" to which he answered "no..." and he got up and we put his diaper back on... lol... though now he won't keep the diaper on hardly at all and I think he just loves sitting on his potty bottomless, checking for pee-pee... lol. I hope I'm going about this right... my mother had both my sister and I potty trained by 2, but she is totally in the dark when it comes to little boys so I'm going at it alone. Wish me luck!!

ETA: Pee-pee we seem to really grasp, when I asked him "can you say poop?" he just looked at me, wrinkled his nose and said "eewww!" lol... so that we'll get to eventually...

me too. it was so easy with my daughter but my son is so different and difficult on everything.

19 months...so I've known it was coming for a while... but now the time is upon us and I'm getting cold feet.. he seems thrilled, mommy is the wimpy one... lol

tyler is 18 mos and we have him peeing on a potty a few times each day. he hasnt mastered pooping on it yet either or even know what poop is really. he loves to sit on it and pee though. and then he loves to run around the living room naked. boys!

That's another thing I was wondering about... this early on, should I stick with the diaper at home during the day, switch to a pull-up, go all in with big boy undies or just nothing at all?? I have hardwood and tile so I'm not all that worried about messes, I just don't know what would be the most effective...

im going to stick with the diaper for another few wks. then switch to a pull up and figure out how to proceed from there!

Wow my Aidan will be 19 months in 6 days and he doesnt even say pee pee yet lol. I tried putting him on the potty but he wont go. I leave him nakey and then i hear him peeing in the corner lmao

We started with nothing at all...naked time (and a few accidents) helped him to learn exactly when everything was happening and what it felt like. Only took one accident to realize how it all worked and he was going on his own. He never misses when he is naked. Now we are transitioning to underwear, but he's pretty hit and miss with it. He will be 2 a week from today, and we have been slowly working on this for a couple of months. You may be lucky and have a quick trainer, but be prepared for a long haul! And don't push him...it will only draw things out longer. Good luck!

That's what I was thinking... of course my husband FLIPPED out last night, lol, soI guess we'll maybe just start out slow... ease everyone into it (mostly daddy, lol) and then go full throttle without the britches...

That was pretty much our experience too.
Naked =100% sucess, undies too a while.
Pull ups were a disater..... more $$ harder to get up and down then undies, and to him they were just like a diaper. so we gave up on them. He's 2.5 and almost never has a day time accident anymore, but still wears a diaper at night just in case b/c he's such a sound sleeper.

also limit the drinking time - give him for teh time being his drinks at set times or with meals - if he's drinking off and on all day he'll also be peeing off and on all day and have a harder time recognizing it.
