Appropriate or Inappropriate?

My boyfriend's daughter (9 years old) and I were playing around last night and she kept poking and trying to bite my breasts. I kept telling her to stop and tried to redirect the "tickling" play to more appropriate areas (knees, feet, waist and armpits). She still kept going for my breasts. Finally I started to get up off the couch and she asked me if it hurt (poking my breasts) and I told her no, that she shouldn't do it because it just isn't an appropriate place to touch. She started laughing and saying "But they're squishy!". Now, I don't remember doing this as a kid...but is this behavior/play normal? I wondered if she was doing this because her body is going through some changes and maybe she's curious about what breasts feel like/look like. At least, that's what the logical part of me thinks.

Any comments???

I wouldn't say inappropriate. But if it bothers you then you were right to stop it. I'm sure she's just curious.

a 9 y/o? i could see a younger child doing that, but i dunno about a 9 y/o.

btw now that i am trhinking about this i think it is normal my daughter is 8 months and grabs at mine now and if ia m naked like shower ect she trys to tweak my nipple it drives me nuts but you can see shes just curious .

I did this as a kid. I think it's normal because karma has bit my ass and other kids have done it to me now lol.
I used to mortify my older sister's friends by running up to them and screaming BOOBIES! and grabbing their boobs. wtf?

my niece to is 9 years old and does this to my sister - but since she was a baby she would fall alseep with her hand on my sisters boob so i dont know if it has to do with that - my sister doesnt even notice whne she is doing it anymore - like i will be over at her house and my niece will just come up to her and grab a boob - but it does seem like a comfort thing - BUT she refuses to believe that she will ever ahve boobies so - i dont know maybe girls are jsut confusing - i remember being that yougn and not beig able to stop staring at bobos cause i thought god im going to ahve those some day thats AWESSOME!!!

Well thank you everyone for your responses! I'm glad that this seems like normal behavior. I am not comfortable with it and will try to explain boundaries to her and the importance of respecting them. I know she is scheduled to have a discussion about puberty soon with her doctor and her mother so hopefully that will help some of her curiosity.

I think this is completely normal. Kids are just curious at this age. I have 3 daughters, and my 11 year old did that around that age....my almost6 year old seems to be getting to that point now. She chases her big sister around screaming "you have big boobies......big fat boobies!" She doesn't though....nothing yet. It's annoying as hell, but normal

im sure its appropriate. Esp if you're the only mother figure. She doesn't know what they're for and surely doesn't know that it's innapropriate.
