Gestational diabetes

posted 19th Oct
Just found out I have gestational diabetes. GREAT.
I am so upset I can't even think straight right now. I feel like I'm watching my chances of having a successful vbac slip right down the drain.
I seriously can't stop crying. I haven't gained any weight, I've actually lost 3 pounds. I take better care of myself than I ever have. I'm so confused on why now. I gained nearly 45 pounds with Millie, why not then? Why now?
I'm just so upset.
This pretty much ruins my chances of any kind of a natural birth. Awesome.

Any support, advice, comments appreciated.

I had gb also and it recently went away. So dont panic. And you can still have a vb even if it doesnt go away. I was so worried in the begining but calmed down. It will be ok.

Hun, it doesn't ruin anything. Try to take a deep breath and relax. The complications from GD are related to uncontrolled sugars, as long as you really REALLY watch you sugar intake, check your sugars if they want you to, use insulin if you need it, the risk of complications really decrease. It is really important that with GD you try to go as close to 40 weeks as possible because it can effect lung maturity. Just continue to eat right and exercise.

You can still have a natural childbirth, can't you?

My SIL has had gestational diabetes with all 3 of hers and she had all 3 of them naturally.

Or is it different for VBACs?

You can. But with GD they do not want you to go over your due date. A lot of doctors don't like to induce with vbacs because of the increased risk of uterine rupture.
So you'll be pressured to schedule a cesarean on or before your due date.
