How do I start the process? Do you have to go ahead and file for custody before you can get child support? How long does it usually take to go through the whole process on both? Any advice or help on what the hell to do?

Go to domestic relations office for child support and hire a lawyer for custody. Its going to be a while to close custody if the 2 of you don't agree on anything. Child support is pretty easy to get though.

Our courthouse has an office that helps people file pro-se. They tell you which documents to file and how to do it, etc.
They own't offer legal advice, but they will tell you how the proccess works to make it a little easier.
