re: if you live in the u.s and need a car but cant afford one

I think OP is outta here by now (wouldn't be surprised) but honestly, I get by without a car. Yeah it sucks sometimes. I can't afford a car. Mainly because of upkeep once I GOT the car, unless you are planning on driving without the legal shit involved that you pay for all the time.

We take the city bus to get to my sons appointments. Two hours both ways. Yes, it fucking sucks. Where there is a will there is a way. We grocery shop by shoving our bags of groceries into his stroller... though you are saying your money goes to cigs instead of foods. We got a bicycle (much cheaper, no upkeep) and a trailer (cheap on craigslist) and we can haul groceries that way as well, when weather permits. Seriously, I know some people seriously need help, I have been there... but when you have a baby you have to TRY, and trying is doing more than posting a sob story and hoping for votes.

I didn't mean to rant about it but it bugs me now more than it did. I got pregnant at 16, had a baby at 17, and I was lucky the few times I could get a ride from someone, including my mom... she didn't watch my baby during school, I didn't go out on evenings or weekends, I felt terrible the few times I had to ask for help to get groceries. It sucks, but it's life when you put yourself into situations you are unprepared for.

That said, I guess I'm not sure what qualifies for deserving a free car lol I'm mainly against cars in general now, at least in places where public transit is widely available. I hope they make it more reliable and cleaner, so more people use it soon.

I hear ya,mama.I can't afford a car either and get around by bus,bike,and I have a friend who drives a taxi.Sometimes he will let me wait a few days to pay him,and I always,always pay him what I owe.Not having a car is a pain in the ass in bad weather,and seriously cuts back on your night-life.Not that I have much of one to begin with, but if I want to see the occasional band play,I have to really save up for the taxi fee.
