military spouses vs non-military spouses -

posted 15th Oct
as an army wife i hear all sorts of stuff from non-military spouses who try to compare situations to mine. now in NO way to i think that military spouses are any better than other spouses, but do you think its fair for wives to complain about how their husbands are gone for a weekend with the guys or even a month long business trip, to a wife who goes without theirs for a year? or to say it was "his choice to sign up, deal with it?"

Yes its fine, we all miss our loved ones.

I don;t get the whole " i'm a wife, i have the hardest job in the military"

everyone has the right to miss their spouse, whether it's a deployment or not. you as a military spouse should understand that. you dont have any more right than them.

ive never said that nor have i heard any of my military wife friends say that

women that say that are just looking for sympathy and probably a reason to cheat on their deployed husband

I hate the "he signed up" argument. Even though I use it on myself to make myself seem less of a pussy
But in all seriousness...I can't expect women who've never lived this lifestyle to understand what it's like, and how hard it is.
It's frustrating sometimes because we do get the "you knew what you were getting into" line constantly, but that's just how it is. You don't understand what it's like to be a military wife til you are one.

Eh, both. For us, I don't mind being away from my husband for long periods of time. I was raised a Navy brat, it's what I know... so for someone else not used to that lifestyle I do sympathize when their husband is gone for a few days... thats a long time FOR THEM. And being a military wife, we sign up for just as much BS as they do, unfortunately... at the same time, I certainly don't make light of the fact that it can be hell not seeing your spouse for upwards of 6 months, sometimes more than a year at a time. It's agony...

I honestly don't understand it.

Yes, military wives go without their men for years, but why should non military wives feel almost "ashamed" to miss their husbands because of what military wives go through?

My SO is gone for 6 months at a time, and I never try and act holier than thou.

I have been away from a spouse while in the military and as a civilian and it sucks either way. They are still gone and you still miss them

I would miss my husband no matter how long he was gone.

It doesn't mean you miss your SO more than them it just means you miss him longer.
