I don't know what to say.

posted 14th Oct
I have this friend who I've been friends with for a little over a year now. She lives on the other side of the country now but we still keep in contact. I couple months ago, she told me that she found out she was going to be a grandma!! I was so excited for her! Well I asked her if she had been to the dr yet, and she said that in the state of Washington, they have really horrible medical coverage. Her daughter was trying to get on medicaid, but the process seemed to take forever and even the health clinics wouldn't see her until she had some form of insurance.

Well she never felt sick or anything, she thought things were going well. She finally got an appt scheduled and went it. When she went in, they told her that she was about 15 weeks along, but the baby was only 8 weeks and was dead. She carried it inside of her for 7 weeks dead...I really don't know what to say to her because I know nothing I say can bring the baby back. I just think it's horrible that she had it in her for so long and didn't even know it because no one would see her.

If you can't figure anything out, just make sure to let them know that they are in your thoughts (and prayers if that's your thing) and you're so sorry for their loss. I know it can be hard to find the right words to say when things like this happen, and sometimes sticking to something generic is the best thing to do.

First off, I am really sorry for your friends loss.

Second, Washington healthcare does not, by any means, suck compared to other places. With my two younger children I had to get on DSHS and was given it the moment I had a positive pregnancy test So, what was going on with her, I can't imagine. Also, I know around here, there are free clincis for pregnant women.

And, to let you know, it may not be a comfort, but being it was a miscarriage, even early prenatal care, more than likely, would not have saved her pregnancy. I feel terrible for her, but that's the reality of it. Hopefully, she goes on to have much healthier, happier pregnancies, and now she has an angel baby to watch over her.
