NSB Kings Bay, GA

So my husband finally got his orders and we're going to Kings Bay. This is our first station ever and I'm freaking out! I've been a Navy Brat my whole life so when we PCS'd it was just all routine and of course my dad and mom did all the arrangements, but now being a Navy wife I dont know where to start. I want to call the housing office in GA but I'm not even sure if living on base is the best idea. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should we live off or on base?? For us BAH for Kings Bay is $990; are there decent houses for rent?

There is decent housing for afforadable prices off base and the area is really nice and kid friendly so you really don't have to worry about renting in the "ghetto".. The housing on base is nice also but sometimes going on and off base can be a pain with it being a nuclear sub base and the security is "extra" tight.

you should check the local paper to get an idea of rental prices in StMarys and Kingsland. www.tribune-georgian.com

Another thing I would suggest looking into if it's an option for you is buying. The market is crazy horrible down there right now and I have friends that have all bought houses in nice neighborhoods and paid no more than 125,000.

Subdivisions I recommend are The Lakes (in Kingsland), Sugar Mill (StMarys) and Crooked River (also in StMarys)..

Thank You so much! I've been looking at some houses off base and Im just surprised how cheap things are over there. i love it! lol. I dont mind the extra tight security, it makes me feel safe which is adefiniteplus with the hubby going out to sea all the time  I've seen pictures of the houses on base but it doesnt show the inside of the house which is a bummer .Thank you for the site, I will look through it right now!
