Thanks for your honesty!

What I'd love to do is expand on what SO's father does he has boys living with him usually only over 14 no young boys. He clothes them, takes them to school etc. He's been doing it for years and wish he had a bigger place and some help so he could take on more boys.

Yeah....that's kind of the same thing.
And if you are a foster kid you can specify ages.
Like...only babies under four...or only teens...whatever.

Go through an agency...they offer WAY more support than the state does AND more pay.
The difference was i was licensed instead of certified...which just meant I had protection if they had wanted to pull my license for any reason.
Agencies are way better and they don't have the same social workers.

Yeah I think he goes with agencies. I'm shocked they gave him a license with his past but he does a great job with the boys. They'll call him up and he can say yes or no he doesn't take a kid whose going to potentially put other boys in danger.

Yeah.
That's sad for those kids...but it's a sad reality that you have to try to protect everyone.
And you can't do that if one boy is aggressive or destructive.

You do realize that school is no guarantee that people will not be socially awkward either, right?

The problem isn't with homeschooling, it's with not making sure the child has enough interaction to ensure proper socializing takes place. A parent can homeschool, and make sure they expose the child to a wide variety of outside activities, where they learn with and from their peers. Many parents homeschool because they want to isolate the child, instill only certain values, etc. so of course there will be an issue with socialization in those cases, because that's exactly what the parent wants. The parent wants full control over the child, and what the child learns. That's not a fault with homeschooling, though, but with overbearing parents who have unrealistic expectations of their children.

No, you didn't.

You're assuming the problem lies with homeschooling, when it doesn't, it lies with controlling parents who are purposely isolating their children. If the goal isn't isolation, then a homeschool parent will make sure the child has a variety of social interactions with their peers.

Please answer this, is school the ONLY place a child can get their socialization needs met?

very very well said
as always.....
i alwyas find it so odd when parents wnat to homeschool so that their child is protected form the rest of the world. the world is THERE, you cant avoid it, you are part of it. its like parents who think teaching politics at a young age is a waste of time. it is a part of the world in which they live in, dont they deserve to have the oportuniy to understand it fully in all its imperfections and contradictions?
