Going to Rosarito Mexico

I need some help. I dont know if im just an idiot or what but I cant seem to find what I need to know online and it's driving me crazy. We have to go to Rosarito, Mexico this week for a funeral and I cant find what type of documentation we need to get into mexico, and what we need to get back into the US. We're only staying for a day or two. If someone could help me with a link or info I would be sooo damn grateful. Thanks girls.

Your passport and ID.

You need to have your passport to cross back into the US. I don't think you need anything to go into Mexico

As far as what my husband just said, you do need it to get into mexico aswell now. I am not 100% sure. I know that I had to have mine back in 98 to get in to mexico and back to the US.

ETA: I am looking now and I guess we are wrong lol. But either way, you need one to get back into the US, so you need one to get in if you want to get back.

I LOVE Mexico. Too bad you aren't going for fun though. You need passports and IDs.
When I went I didnt knpw they passed the law foor passports and I was stuck at the border for like 4 hours being questioned and searched lol. It sucked soo bad!

I think you need a passport.

Answer: To return to the US from Mexico by land, sea or air after June 1, 2009, you must now present a passport or PASS card (available to anyone) or Enhanced Driver's License (residents of some US states can get these). You can no longer use just proof of US citizenship, like an embossed birth certificate, with a government issued photo id (more on those below). Regardless of id choice, you also need a tourist card.

Identification Acceptable for Crossing US/Mexico Borders by Land

It was the case for decades that US citizens could use a combination of proof of US citizenship, like a birth certificate, *and* driver's license or other state-issued photo id, to return from Mexico to the US, and was still the case that passports weren't needed to return from Mexico by land even after it became necessary to use a passport to return to the US by air in 2007; all of that changed after June 1, 2009, and you must now have a passport, PASS card, Enhanced Driver's License or other acceptable ID (list is just below).

• Do I need a passport to visit Mexico in 2009? You need a passport to return to the US from Mexico by air after the passport deadline of January 23, 2007. If traveling to Mexico over land, you will need a passport starting June 1, 2009 -- or you can use a cheaper PASS card). I read online about tourist passes and staying no more than 72 hours and not going past the "border zones" and blah blah blah but I just wasnt sure since they were supposed to pass the new law about passports. Gah.

I didn't need anything to go over.. On the way back is when they care.

That law passed in June of this year. Same for Canada. You need it now.

Hahaha, don't worry about it. Just go and take your birth certificates and ID's and just say "Oh, I didnt know" when you cross back. I live in a border town. I know A LOT of ppl that work for border patrol and all they do the 1st time is give you a warning. Or say, "We already got the paperwork but it's immediate family/friends and we really wanted to pay our respects" and thats all. They don't make a big deal out of it.

Yeah lol, but if you want to get back, then you will need it anyway. So basically they should say you need it both ways.... lol.
