Latching on?

posted 11th Oct
i have a 8 week old baby, and he was breastfead the first 2 days of his life, but due to his health reasons, he was put onto formula. i also expressed my own milk for him too, till he was about 3 weeks old.
but tonight in the bath (we share a bath) he's nearly 8 weeks, he tried latching onto me again, so i thought, i try to latch him on and see what he does, and woolaa, he latches on great, way better than he did when he was newborn. i dont have hardly any milk left, my boobies still leak, but not as much as they use too. it seem to really calm him down tonight when we did it. so my question is, if i do it for a little bit every day for him just to suck and the calm down a bit, would my some of my milk come back or is it too late now? and also if it is too late, theres not any harm in him sucking away for comfort is there? just as long as he's not doing it when he's like 5 or whatever lol but i would like to make it clear tho, i dont want to go back to breast feeding, im just wanting to know if my milk will come back so i can comfort him when he's restless

As long as you try to feed him through the breast when he is hungry your milk supply will probably build up. You can try BFing then give him formula and pump to see what comes out.

If your baby is going to the breast it will stimulate milk production

It's not too late. If you want to breast feed do it and give him formula after. Also pumping will get your supply up. Once your supply is up you won't need to give him formula.

i was wanting to contiune to pump, but i was only getting about 1oz each day, at 2 weeks pp, so thats why i stopped.but i think i will have to see my doctor about this tho, as i am on anti-depressants now, dont want any of that gonig to the wee man, if i do start feeding him again

Getting to a lactating state is very realistic especially if you have some supply left. So long as there is demand your body should be able to make the milk Try to nurse as often as your lo is willing to boost supply. You could also consider Fenugreek, which may help to boost your supply.

I nurse on antidepressants, talk to your doctor there are certain meds that are safer than others and they may have a good option for you.
