Which do you prefer a Midwife or OBGYN?

posted 9th Oct
I have had an obgyn for all of my pregnancies. I was wondering if i should try something different this time around, because sometimes doctors are soo invasive. What is the difference between a midwife and an obgyn? Also if you've ever had both, which did you prefer more?
Does one show more attention and listen to your needs better then the other?

I started with an OBGYN and switched to a midwife toward the end. The midwife was better hands down!

I had an OB/GYN that had a midwife that did all the appointments that were not exams or tests. It was really cool and I really liked the midwife. I might would consider going midwife completely next time.

Oh sorry also..OB's are trained surgeons so they are always looking for the emergency. They also only show up for the delivery part of the birth.
Midwives are trained in hands on labor/birth and stay with you the whole time.

My OB only came into the office for like 5-10 min an appt and I was always rushed out. My midwife appts lasted like an hour and they always talked to me and answered any questions. We had an actual relationship.

i had a midwife for the first twenty or so weeks of my pregnancy and then we moved from PA to NY and i started with an OBGYN here. I totally wish i stayed with a midwife, she was so involved and made me feel so much more comfortable and such, my OB was ALWAYS in a rush and never seemed to have a second to spare for me. next time around we have already decided to stick with a midwife.

I've had both this pregnancy actually and I LOVE my midwife (and I was upset to have to leave my ob). Midwives tend to have a little more of ahands off, let nature happen mentality. Also, my ob appts were never more than 15 min once the doc was in there and my midwife appts are almost always nearly an hour! Way more attentive and supportive about everything... my midwife will take time to explain things and discuss things with me where-as my ob just would say "normal" and "oh that's pregnancy for ya" instead of helping me find answers or home remedies for aches and pains. Switching was the BEST move I could have made!

Like I said in my post, my OBGYN only saw me like 5 times in my whole pregnancy. The other 11 appointments were handled by the in office midwife... and I enjoyed those appointments very much. I wish she could have delivered me too.
