6 months for murder

posted 6th Oct
Well I have been following a story from my home area about some people who prayed instead of got their dying daughter to the hospital. Now the little girl is dead and they are convicted. Know what they got 10 years probation and 30 days a year for the first 6 years in prison to think of what their daughter would have wanted. Their kid can't be brought back, but very easily would have survived her diabetes with very basic medical treatment. I read this and now I am really saddened. I don't feel justice was served. What do you think?

Well going off your OP I wouldn't call that murder. Neglect? Absolutely.

Thats BS. I was diagnosed with diabetes at age 11.. at a dangerous level.. easily treated.. but you know the hell your body goes through with high blood sugars? When my body hits 500 im very thirsty, peeing a lot.. my joints tend to start hurting.. headaches, irritability...

Its child abuse by not taking care of their daughter..

ugh... smh.

That's really sad. I don't agree with what they did, but I can see why they did it. They honestly believed they were doing what was right. We had a girl die in my hometown at 16 because she was in a motorcycle crash and her family was hardcore JW and wouldn't allow the doctors to do the blood transfusion that could have saved her. People walked out of her memorial service because they mentioned her name once and the rest of the service was basically just a recruitment to get people to join the Jehova's.

Thats sad.. one of our ex landlords wife was in a car wreck.. she could have been saved too but was JW and wouldnt do the blood thing

I guess we can't call it intentional murder, I don't believe they wanted their child dead, but I don't think a slap on the wrist really teaches them a lesson.

I guess what it comes down to is SHOULD they be taught a lesson? Yes, by today's standards they neglected thier child and allowed her to die when she could have been fine, but if thier religion/beliefs is to heal through prayer, then how can anyone force them to believe otherwise?

Don't get me wrong, I think what they did was horrible (my husband is type 1 diabetic and I know they hell he went through and how he felt before he was diagnosed and he nearly died) but I guess it becomes and issue of religious freedoms and rights. For example, what if what she had required a blood tranfusion and they wouldn't do it because they were Jehova - would you still think that they should be "taught a lesson"?

Personally I feel God heals through the Dr's so I would never just pray and hope for a miracle. I would exercise every available medical option while praying.

I understand religious beliefs, but as a parent I would never sacrifice my child's life for those beliefs.
