ohh, and she delivered vaginally. her doctors preferred to do it this way, i don't know what the deciding factors are though.

Thank you, I'm glad things went well for your cousins baby as well...
We still see her surgeon to check for hernias but so far there has been no sign of one

I think its just what you and your OB are more comfortable with...even if we had decided to do it vaginally I would have ended up with a c-section because I was progressing fast at 36 weeks and then babys heartrate was irregular due to meconium aspiration.
But I am planning on trying for a VBAC if I have another baby

We asked my sons pedi if he absolutely needed to have surgery, and she said no.

My son would have been born vaginally at 36weeks but he was still breech a week prior so I had to have a scheduled c-section. blah! His procedure went a little different then your daughters but I understand that with every circumstance things are done differently. All his intestines were put back in and skin was sewn up but the muscle fascia wasn't so when you touch his "belly button"(I put" " because he doesn't have one. : )) you're actually touching his intestines. He his perfectly fine and a big healthy boy. He is now 20months, 30lbs, &36in tall.

I am glad to hear that everyones baby has done well with their gastro. My son was born with it @ 35 weeks and i am having a very hard time grasping it all. If i knew how to upload pics i would put some up for you all to see but i dont know how. Anyway he's 6 weeks as of yesterday and he still has to have a second surgery i read up on gastroschisis and it said that my pregnancy was one out of 2,000. Its hard knowing he's not coming home with me and i cry every night. once he gets this second surgery he has to stay in until he fully eats and poops he still has a long journey in the nicu and it breaks my heart daily,.....

I know, its the hardest thing in the world going home every night without your baby! How old is your son now??
Just hang in there mama, your son needs you to be strong for him and though its hard, he's getting the best care possible and he'll be home with you before you know it <3

This is a great post. And was very nice of you to do.
I'm glad that your baby is doing good.
One of my best friends baby was born with gastroschisis and it was really sad but she has fully recovered from it too and is perfect now.
But with her they didn't even know that she had it. It never showed up on her ultrasounds.
They thought that she was going to have spinabifita when she was born b/c of some blood tests that came back abnormal. But thankfully it wasn't that (from what I've read that is much worse) and she was born at 32 weeks she was so tiny and it was so sad to see her like that, but like I said she is perfect now.
You are a brave woman. I can't even imagine how hard it would be to deal with that. I know it was hard for my friend, her baby girl was in the hospital for 2 months.

The day i got discharged, I sat in the bathroom and just balled because i was leaving the hospital without my son. It really sucked, but eventually he'll be able to come home, and you will be one big happy family.

he is almost 2 months and thanks yes that is the hardest thing but hopefully that surgery was his biggest thing now its the little milestones like eating full bottles and using the batheroom so hopefully its a speedy recovery

Hi again ladies. So I had my little boy on December 8th and he weighed 5lbs 10oz. He had a silo and for a week and then had his surgery last Tuesday when he was a week old. He is doing great so far. Everyday they take him off of some tube or iv or somethin. He was taken off his morphine today. All we are waiting for is for him to start pooping more and for his ng tube to run clear instead of green so we can start feeding him. Anyway, I had a question hopefully someone can answer it soon. I have been pumping since the day after he was born, but I don't have time to pump 8 times a day as recommended. I am usually only able to do it 3 or 4 times a day. I can tell now that my breastmilk is starting to decrease. I don't feel engorged as often anymore or get in pain. I wanted to know how many of you continued to breastfeed throughout your babies hospital stay and once they got home. I have TONS of milk already stored in my freezer but he still has a while to go before he can start eating I'm sure. I would love to keep him on breastmilk but I just don't have the time while he's in the hospital. I wake up, and get ready right away to go see him. And the days just seem to fly by. Idk sorry this is long if anyone has any help for me I appreciate it.

Here's some pictures of my precious boy.

He is precious!!
My daughter is 10.5 months old I still pump 8 times a day. Are you waking up during the night to pump? You will lose your supply if you don't pump at least 6 times a day. And does your sons NICU have a pumping room? The one my daughter was in did, so I was able to just go to another room and pump and then go back to see her.

Thankyou.   I have woken up a few nights to pump but I'm a really hard sleeper and I really don't feel the pain from being engorged during the night so I don't even wake up. I just haven't gotten very much sleep lately I guess that's why I haven't been able to wake up. And I know once he comes home I will have to get up during the night but it'll be different then because he'll be home and once he goes back to sleep I can go back to sleep. Right now I spend my days at the hospital with him I don't have extra time during the day to sleep. So it's really hard. They do have a pump room that I use sometimes. I heard of a capsul you can take to help increase your supply again I'm going to look into that. I asked the lactation nurse today and she said it would be safe for him and everything. I also have a Evenflo pump which isn't the best plus it's only a single, I plan on buying a Medela double pump once I have a little extra money for one.
